Network Specialist, Telecommunications

Valo Networks is a Corporation striving to build and develop Fiber to the Home Networks and Services to mostly rural Canadian residents.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Technical Responsibilities:

• Technical lead in development of architectural and design standards for highly automated and supportable Internet core and GPON based FttP access architectures.
• Create the network design documentation, implement the designs and lead the commissioning or change management activities to support growth and evolution of the network.
• Lead the effort to evaluate and/or develop technologies and tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the network design process.
• Execute the effort to evaluate and test new technologies/tools and monitor evolving technologies (PON) for possible introduction into the network.

Operational Responsibilities:

• Execute the operational support of the network including both proactive monitoring and management using scripts and other OSS tools and reactive support including network troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Execute the development and continuous improvement of network operations KPI/SLAs through automation, optimization of the network architecture and operational process optimization.
• Manage and participate in the on-call network support rotation.
• Execute the testing and implementation of software upgrades to network devices to address bugs or enable new features.

WHAT WILL YOU NEED?

• Experience with troubleshooting IP and PON based networks.
• Experience with Linux and automation scripting tools such as Python/Ansible is desirable.
• Experience with Operational Support Systems (OSS) including SNMP or Netconf based network/performance management, DNS, DHCP, etc.
• Hands-on working knowledge of routers/switches and associated protocols such IPv4/IPv6, BGP and OSPF. Experience in Juniper, Cisco and Arista equipment desirable.
• Understanding of security architectures including hardware (firewalls/ACLs, VPNs, AAA, etc), (authentication, authorization & accounting) systems and processes is desirable.
• Knowledge of Outside Plant (OSP) wireless and fiber design and construction processes are considered assets.
• Knowledge and understanding of Docsis protocol.
• Experience with working inside of OSS and BSS systems.
• Ability to prioritize and organize time to follow through with assigned functions while maintaining a high standard of quality, and to deal with multiple overlapping projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, technical diplomas or 5 – 8 + years equivalent experience.
