The Role

A Network Technician – Maryland is responsible for network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Tier 2 issues among the full array of Election Management Systems in compliance with certification requirements across Federal, State and Local jurisdictions in the State of Maryland. This role requires a subject matter expert (SME) with respect to operating systems, server and network hardware, telecommunications, application interfaces and system security among company products. Additional responsibilities included advanced network design, configuration, and troubleshooting, including being the SME and point of contact for advanced network configurations. This position is required to also utilize critical thinking skills to determine gaps in processes, technology, or documentation, and provide recommendation to remediate the gap.

This is a primarily a remote position, but the candidate is expected to maintain an office in Bowie, MD as needed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively work as part of the Maryland Project Management Office.
  • Offer initiative, leadership and support in developing, installing, building, configuring, supporting, administering and documenting complex election management systems including Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN); and other system components in compliance with jurisdiction certification requirements.
  • Serve as ES&S-Maryland SME on network communications, connectivity, and telecommunications. Provide recommendations and best practices for current and future Voting System architectures in relation to network and system communications.
  • Support customer Voting Systems by acting as a resource and/or troubleshooting complex and sensitive escalated Tier 2 technical issues.
  • Effectively communicate with key stakeholders on new implementations, upgrades, RFP responses, and Voting System requirements. Perform basic project management, planning, and communication roles to ensure all implementation deliverables are performed on-time and with high quality.
  • Gather requirements for customer Voting System networks and create appropriate network architecture design and network quotes based on the requirements analysis.
  • Monitor and manage COTS hardware and software with respect to current legacy products. Provide analysis and recommendations based on hardware and software lifecycles.
  • Communicate best practices and recommendations for system security, availability, and performance to both internal and external customers.
  • Effectively communicate and present Technical Services related presentations and documentation to both internal and external customers.

Requirements:

40% travel is possible, varies on election cycle. Travel will mostly be in the State of Maryland’s 24 Counties and occasionally out of state as required. Travel expenses are reimbursable per company policy.


Education:
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Technology or related field is preferred


Experience:
At least five years of professional IT experience including:

  • Experience in a technical environment, with roles such as Technical/Customer Support, System Administrator (System installation, configuration, and maintenance), Network Administration, and Systems Analyst
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite and office communications
  • Knowledge and work experience in Networking and troubleshooting PC systems including, but not limited to:
  • Understanding of Server and Workstation system deployments
  • Experience with MS Operating Systems, including Windows Server
  • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networking and routing
  • Cisco ASA firewall/router configuration and troubleshooting
  • Advanced understanding of network communications (LAN/WAN/Cellular)
  • Working knowledge and application of system and network security concepts
  • VPN concepts
  • Communication and reporting to senior-level team members and customers

Licenses/Certifications Preferred:
A+, Network +, CCENT, CCNA, or Microsoft certifications required or equivalent experience.
