The GO Expansion scope : new electric locomotives, fleet upgrades, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications and digital systems, maintenance, and much more.
The Network and Telecom (N&T) Engineering Manager supports the larger engineering team to achieve Engineering QCDP and KPI targets through active contribution and allocation of the appropriate technical resources, methods & tools. In this role, the Engineering Manager is responsible for consistently mentoring, and coaching their teams while providing technical leadership to Signaling projects in North America. This role contributes to the overall strategy of the Engineering team and manages complex issues within technical and process areas requiring signaling expertise.
Responsibilities:
Assist the N&T project teams to deliver within cost, schedule, quality, performance, and safety targets
Ensure that processes, methods & tools are applied consistently across projects and actively contribute to their continuous improvement
Define Scopes-of-Work for Vendor, and Subcontractor quotes
Network design and troubleshooting of LAN/WAN, fiber layouts, and drawings
Cross-platform experience in systems administration, installation, and configuration of Servers
Radio troubleshooting, propagation design, post processing, intermodulation studies, and radio dimensioning
Responsible for managing and/or mitigating technical risks and that opportunities are realized
While working with Engineering Directors and other Engineering Managers, create and implement resource deployment strategies across projects
Ensure the Product Solution and Safety Certification strategies are aligned with the project solution requirements and design for projects executed
Ensure best practices and REX are identified and shared across projects
Ensure that the necessary Customer and System Requirements are properly flowed down to and accepted by the N&T Team
Provide full scope of leadership for direct reports, including performance management & evaluation, workload management, annual assessments, salary planning, and employee development
Optimize efficiency and productivity of the N&T team
Support implementing performance improvement initiatives and competitiveness improvement initiatives
Develop, implement, monitor and report team KPIs
Minimum Qualifications:
BS in Engineering with 10+ years related industry experience
MS in Engineering and/or MBA desired
5+ years experience managing an engineering project team
Extensive knowledge in the field of Networks and Telecom including backbone and wireless technologies
Strong understanding of Mainline and Urban rail signaling system design methodologies, standards (AREMA, CENELEC, IEEE, etc.), and safety concepts
Technical knowledge of Alstom product lines and associated integrated rail signaling systems
Proven Leadership skills and ability to effectively manage a matrixed team across multiple sites
