The Network and Telecoms Support Engineer role is to provide reliable and efficient support for the Trust’s network and telecoms infrastructure, maintaining all operational activities of the technical environment
and the operational services it provides to its customers.
Work closely with other members within the team and department, troubleshooting issues, undertaking regular infrastructure audits/housekeeping, and assisting with project delivery.
This is a customer facing role, by telephone, email, face-to-face and will require infrequent travel across all Trust sites. You will also need to liaise with internal departments and external companies providing a high quality customer & professional service at all times.
Network and Telecoms Support Engineers will be expected to cover core support hours and participate in an on call rota and any planned maintenance activities outside of core office hours as required by the business
- Verbal and written with:
- Chief Executive, Directors and Clinical Directors, managers
- End users of all grades, professions, and skills
- Departmentally based system administrators
- Information, Health Records, Library department staff at all levels
- Local and National service providers, and other third-party suppliers
- Partner organisations (both NHS and others) in the local health community
- Other NHS Trusts, NHS Agencies and HSCIC bodies
- Representation at relevant local, regional, and national forums
- Work with departmental systems administrators, project staff, local and national service providers, and other third party organisations over the integration of these systems into the National Programme, or the replacement of these systems by LSP/NASP equivalents or other central initiatives such as Electronic Staff Record
- Represent the Trust on local, regional and national forums where appropriate for the support and development of these systems
- Work collaboratively with all members of the digital teams to deliver a seamless, efficient, and effective service.
- Ability to actively listen to users of the services and extract relevant information to determine their requirements or the root cause of any issues.
- Ability to show empathy for service users experiencing issues and demonstrate an understanding of the business impact caused
Educated to degree level in relevant subject or relevant experience.
Desirable CCNA, CCNP
Responsible for maintaining and supporting network and telecoms infrastructure and systems across all Trust sites to ensure the IT operational services are available to the Trust’s users,
including:
- Networks (Wired and Wireless)
- External Connectivity (WAN’s, etc)
- Firewalls
- Virtualisation
- Servers
- Web Proxies
- Remote Access Solutions
- All other network and telecoms systems/equipment
- Telecoms including Unify IP telephony
- Responsible for completing all assigned tickets within the Service Desk system (diagnosing and resolving faults) in line with service level agreements and escalating any likely breaches.
- Completing regular infrastructure audits & housekeeping
- Assisting with system updates and upgrades with minimal impact on the production environment when required.
- Assisting with project delivery.
- Responsible for ensuring documentation is kept up to date.
