Work you’ll do/Responsibilities
The Nighttime NOC Engineer will work with and support the NOC 24/7 team, supporting client production, QA, and Development environments, and ensuring company infrastructure adheres to its stringent SLA requirements.
Responsibilities include
- Performing research, analysis, and isolation of alarms that require escalation, additional research, and/or triage
- Adhering to Service Level Agreements (SLA), Operational Level Agreements (OLA), and internal processes
- Publishing information to the knowledge base (Confluence, Wiki)
- Performs initial fault isolation and actively troubleshoot and diagnose problems
- Participates in tracking and prioritization of ticket handling, including inter-shift turnover
- Performs fundamental Windows Server and Unix system admin tasks
- Performs initial tier 1 troubleshooting techniques to resolve incidents regarding Network, Telecom, Server, Back-up Environment, and Data Center related facilities
- Escalates using official escalation procedures when appropriate
- Responsible for executing the daily, weekly, monthly operational monitoring and reporting tasks
- Participates in 24/7/365 (3) shift rotation including weekends and holidays. (This is a shift position from 3 am PM to Noon). Shift schedule is an irregular work week.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Be able to work overtime with little to no notification
- Creates and maintains documentation for processes and procedures
- Monitor and manage the 1st line response to alarms prioritizing severity and perform initial troubleshooting
- Raise, update, and follow up trouble tickets
- Proactively analyze data from network monitoring tools and determine the best course of action to prevent faults from happening
- Create or update internal documentation regarding actions taken to resolve specific case scenarios so that information can be centralized and shared among the team
- Train other NOC Engineers on new or advanced products and services
- Under the direction of the network engineering team, execute moves, adds, changes or deletions (MACDs) to client networks
- Where possible, act as a mentor to other NOC staff in their technical or functional development

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 6+ years’ experience as IT engineer
- NOC support experience
- Expertise in performance monitoring applications
- Proficiency with internet protocols such as TCP/IP
- Experience with network monitoring tools and ticketing systems
- Strong operating systems knowledge – Linux/Windows/VMware
- Experience with Firewall and ACL planning implementation
- History with document collaboration tools (Confluence/Wiki)
- Experience with TCP/IP, DNS, NetFlow, SNMP, and internet protocols
- Working knowledge of basic Windows Server and Unix system administration skills
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related IT discipline
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to travel 10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
- Be a self-starter, should be able to work independently and without supervision if required
- Be able to deliver excellent customer service
