ABOUT THE TEAM:
WHAT YOUâLL DO:
As a NOC Engineer, you will work in the NOC in the office in Columbia, SC or Northport, AL, or remotely if approved. This position will report to the Manager of Network Engineering. In this position, you will be part of the NOC team, which handles site and equipment outages and works closely with other tier support and dispatch departments to drive issues to resolution.
This position is scheduled for a Afternoon Shift schedule. Example: 11am – 9 pm EST. 4 days a week total (1 weekend day). Must be able to work this shift.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve problems affecting network performance that have been escalated and unresolved within the support teams
- Provide technical and analytical support in determining the root cause of network problems
- Implement action plans to resolve potential or active network-impacting issues
- Address client and customer inquiries within established timeframes
- Document logical and physical network design changes
- Provide 24×7 on-call support in rotation with other team members
- Work with account management and use change management to request and implement after-hours changes (circuit upgrades, firmware updates, configuration changes)
- Configure network hardware for deployment, including but not limited to switches, routers, servers, APs, NVRs, GPON OLTs, PDUs, Dish Smartbox
- Work with field teams to activate, replace, or repair network and video systems
- Work with on-site technicians to repair/replace faulty equipment
- Remotely upgrade field equipment during established maintenance windows
- Communicate with other teams and external stakeholders in accordance with internal SLAs
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- 2 + years of experience in NOC, ISP, MSP, or Network Helpdesk environment
- A flexible schedule must include nights and weekends to perform maintenance activities.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills with a high degree of attention to detail
- Above-average problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Knowledge of Wired Ethernet LANs, Wireless LANs (Wi-Fi)
- Knowledge of data network elements such as IP routers, Ethernet switches, firewalls
- Knowledge of IPv4 & IPv6 network technologies such as IP addressing (CIDR, VLSM, HEX), ARP, DHCPv6, SLAAC
- Knowledge of Layer-2 network technologies, including Ethernet LAN/MAN, IEEE standards & 802.3xx, and 802.1q VLAN tagging
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Any Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP) certifications
- Any Cisco or Juniper certifications
- P2P/P2MP Microwave Wireless solutions
- Active Ethernet over Fiber solutions, xPON solutions
- Knowledge of TCP-IP protocols such as OSPF, ISIS, BGP-4
- Knowledge of the IEEE 802.11 wireless standards (e.g. b/g/n/ac/ax) & security protocols
- Network automation with Python or Ansible
- Video systems with both IP and RF distribution
- The preferred locations are Columbia, SC or Northport, AL
