VDOT’s Northern Virginia District is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as subject matter expert on coordinating communications and systems power utilities for Northern Region Operations. The selected candidate will be responsible for: managing Northern Regions’ fiber optic network, broadband, telephone, wireless, and radio, including evaluating opportunities, negotiating resources with telecommunications providers, and developing agreements in coordination with VDOTs Central Office Operations Division.
Additionally, leading the evaluation and negotiation of resources for the region, collaborating with Central Office Operations Division and various other projects to evaluate and negotiate statewide needs.
Position will support Northern Regional Operations Transportation Operations Center, Signal Operations Center, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Roadway Lighting, Traffic Signal and Advanced Transportation Management System program for all telecommunications and energy efficiency related issues and initiatives.

Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth telework policy.
Knowledge of Internet Protocol addressing, routing and configuration in a complex private/public network environment.
Knowledge of telecommunications industry standards, relevant federal and state regulations and cyber and physical security best practices.
Knowledge of efficient-technologies for communications and power systems.
Ability to develop high level communications plans including high level network architecture designs and deploying near and long term aspects of the plan
Communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences;
Interface with internal and external partners
Work in a fast paced, urban environment and manage multiple assignments and contractors.
Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience to fulfill the position requirements.
