OSP/ Civil Designers

Legacy DesignTech Inc. is one of the leaders in providing design and engineering services to major telecommunications service providers.

We are currently looking for an OSP / Civil Designer(s) for our Edmonton office. Designer responsibilities will include, but not limited to: supporting engineering plan design and drafting needs to deploy small, medium to large scale telecommunications infrastructure projects. This position will report to the Design Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers.
• Check survey information is complete and ready for design.
• Operate Autodesk AutoCAD and Microstation with a high level of competency.
• Prepare engineering drawings from rough sketches or from general engineering and design information according to established standards and procedures.
• Import field data from GIS based systems into AutoCAD.
• Uses theoretical and practical engineering knowledge when preparing engineering drawings.

• Contributes to and implements design modifications to improve quality of projects and process improvements.
• Perform engineering calculations such as pole line analysis, db loss, pulling tensions, etc. using various programs.
• Obtain permit approvals such as line assignments from cities and municipalities, crossing and proximity agreements, parks and environmental approvals, etc.
• Lead or participate in meetings with clients and stakeholders

• Submission of design packages (IFR and IFC)
• Accountable in managing project budgets and schedules for successful on time delivery while maintaining high quality of work
• Perform field check and plant audit
• Other duties as required

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years industry experience specializing in Outside Plant Telecommunication design
• Engineering Technologist or Engineering Degree holder from a recognized university is a must.
• Familiarity and experience with telecommunications and electrical standards including Canadian Electrical Code and Alberta Electrical Code.

• Proficient in AutoCAD, Microstation, Bluebeam and MS programs required.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision
• Keen attention to detail – Knowledge of URD telecom design is a must
• Excellent organizational skills

• Experience reading and comprehending construction plans and other design drawings from other utilities
• Experience with SpatialNet drafting is considered an asset
• Class 5 Driver’s License and must have a clean driving records
• Selected Candidate is required to obtain criminal background check and police clearance
