Overview
The OSP Engineer plans and prepares drawings for new construction, removal or rearrangement of existing, overhead or underground lines, cables, and conduits to obtain optimum and economical utilization of communications facilities. This position will analyze traffic loads, available and existing infrastructures, estimate or forecast projected traffic patterns to determine new construction or rearrangements and removals that may be required. Other duties will include selecting the most cost beneficial route for all lines and equipment for work projects, preparing detailed construction and installation drawings, providing estimates of labor and material costs, and electronic/manual mapping data input for company CMS (Cable Management Service) for some inner/external users to access.
Responsibilities
- Fiber cable field design, cost estimating, pulling multi-ports, splicing sequences and planning and design loss calculations
- Participate in on-the-job training to learn new skill sets and company established standard
- Must be able to report promptly and on time to all appointments
- Complete and obtain appropriate permits as needed
- Perform self-check and quality control of work for completeness and accuracy
- Attend weekly OSP meetings
- Document changes or modifications of specifications within customers’ systems
- Communicate with management as well as other necessary departments to provide work status updates
- Represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct
Qualifications
- Strong computer skills; successful candidates working from home must maintain a connection to broadband
- Fluent in designing Outside Plant facilities
- Experience with FTTH
- Highly self-motivated and does not require micro management
- Must have excellent time management skills and able to manage multiple projects and job budgets
- Strong communication skills with customers to negotiate and influence property owners and customer decisions relating to easement and land acquisitions
- Must have good mathematical aptitude
- Strong communication skills with vendors
- Responsible and one who holds themselves to high standards and self-accountability
- Strong analytical skills
- Organized and have outstanding problem solving skills
- Possess a working cellular phone during business hours
- Good physical condition is a must, as working in mountainous terrain is possible
