SUMMARY:
The OSP Estimator provides support engineering services through the highly detailed analysis of existing information from the records and databases. This position requires a working level of knowledge in all technical aspects of OSP (Outside Plant) fiber and copper networks. The successful candidate is responsible for identifying the existing design and layout of the OSP telecommunications network, including aerial, buried, and underground fiber network design and layout, underground conduit, manhole/handhole, building entrance, and riser facilities and preparing an estimate to extend network services to proposed locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Under the general supervision of the Director of OSP Engineering, the Engineer will be responsible for planning, estimating designing, and maintaining Outside Plant and associated records.
  • Input and track associate parts required for design and generate a BOM including dollar amounts.
  • Ensure proper processes are followed to ensure that designs/records are input and maintained accurately and consistently.
  • Identification of any potential issues with proposed routes.
  • Understanding of OSP construction techniques.
  • Ability to read and understand maps, conduit records, and layout drawings.
  • Ensure that plant designs are effectively protected.
  • Produce drawings/tables to ensure accurate installation and testing by 3rd party contractors.
  • Correlates and obtains desired designs upon request.
  • Does related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • 2+ years of experience in the fiber-optic/telecommunications/telecom construction industry
  • Knowledge of outside plant activities (Fiber Cable Design, Pole Line Construction, Conduit System design)
  • Ability to read and understand as build prints, and be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, select routing of lines and equipment required for projects
  • Familiar with GIS (Geographic Information Systems), ESRI, and Shapefile functionality
  • Understanding of the National Electric Safety Code and knowledge of OSP construction and engineering techniques
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Earth.
  • High School Diploma and or equivalent work experience

  • Computer networking: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:
