To build our growing team, we seek highly motivated and self-reliant Outside Plant Field Engineers in the state of California.
Desired skills and experience for this position:
- At least three or more years of experience designing fiber optic, coaxial, or telephone outside plant engineering
- Experience in engineering, construction, architecture, or telecommunications industries
- Knowledge and experience with telecommunications engineering standards; fiber overbuild data collection experience a plus
- Experience with interpreting cable and substructure designs
- Knowledge and experience of telecommunications construction techniques
- Ability to identify and suggest types of construction methods within ROW; identify assumed public ROW; visually identify existing utilities
- Experience with electronic GPS-based design equipment
- Excellent organizational skills with thorough and precise field notetaking skills
- Strong writing skills when asked to provide brief memos for reporting and documentation purposes
- Strong experience reviewing design drawings
- Experience with and knowledge of state and local permitting processes
- Strong exposure to pole attachment and make ready experience
This position will include the following tasks:
- Determine ideal locations for new underground conduit/fiber facilities and equipment, including above-ground hub/hut locations, as well as underground vaults
- Conduct Underground/Buried Cable layout surveys to determine the most cost-effective solutions and paths
- Conduct new substructure site surveys and site walks, as required
- Determine existing and new locations for fiber optic cables
- Accurately depict new construction route opportunities, with the ability to identify, research, and problem-solve cable path/placement issues in the field and accurately relay solutions to the engineering team
- Make hand-drawn sketches of recommended engineering design while in the field or facility
- Upload clear image files, hand notes, and sketches and edit for quality and cohesiveness
- Become familiar with the different systems needed to fulfill the job requirements within your first month
- Deliver jobs on time and within budget
- Maintain accurate records
- Have an extremely strong attention to detail

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
This position requires a little more than a desk and a computer. You will often be outside, in the elements, working within DOT right-of-way. As such, you must be able to drive your personal vehicle to job sites as needed (you will be reimbursed for mileage). You should be able to utilize hand tools, a cellular telephone, and a significant amount of test equipment. Additionally, you must be able to push, pull, bend, stoop, and reach.
