Overview:

The OSP field engineer performs detailed outside plant facility engineering fielding. The ideal candidate will have an OSP engineering background that includes estimating, analyzing, designing, planning, and budget tracking estimates against actual costs for copper and fiber cables, poles, and direct buried and conduit systems. This position is responsible for preparing clean, clear, and detailed fielding notes that can easily be interpreted by desktop engineers so that they may develop engineering plans, drawings, and reports.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to identify existing telephone plant, electric, and other utilities on the site plans as well as in the field
  • Ability to indicate existing telephone plant location and relocate facilities and knowledge of obtaining right of ways and easements where required
  • Knowledge of obtaining right of ways and easements where required, and the ability to make the appropriate notations on the field notes for the desktop teams.
  • Must have experience in engineering routine and specific COE/OSP work orders, including more complex projects such as road moves, etc. They won’t be doing this work themselves for this role but will be taking the detailed notes that others will have to use to engineer.
  • Must have expert knowledge of COE/OSP principles, work order procedures, telephone industry standards, and COE/OSP records and knowledge of computer-aided drafting systems so as to take the best notes possible for our desktop teams.
  • Must be proficient in OSP Construction Standards
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Safety Code.
  • Computer experience:
  • Microsoft Windows 10 or Newer
  • Microsoft MapPoint 2009 or newer is preferred, but not required.
  • Familiar and comfortable with internet usage, and web page browsing.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Personal time management and organization skills.
  • Time spent working directly for engineering or construction management managers preferred
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel on short notice.
  • Must have own tools such as a measuring wheel, height stick, pull finder, laptop, etc.
