Job Overview:
Perform field inspection of contract work in progress covering construction of outside plant, structures, buried cable and associated facilities in accordance with practices, job specifications and permit requirements.
Responsibilities:

  • Prepare daily records which include a description of the construction activity, time of day, location, daily weather, crew members, equipment make and model, names of visitors, and irregularities and corrective action regarding compliance with the drawings, specifications and permits
  • Monitor construction crew activities
  • Report daily crew activities
  • Prepare damage reports
  • Maintain construction standards and specifications
  • Monitor compliance with appropriate safety regulations
  • Preparing drawings and source documents, including red-line drawing, handhole and splice locations maps for as-built preparation
  • Verify adherence to the construction plans, including depths of placement and offsets from base-line
  • Ensures that the work performed in the field is completed on time, according to work prints and specifications, meets quality standards, and is accurately billed
  • Customer support and interaction
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:
Required Education & Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience
  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record within Company required standards

Required Experience:

  • 1-5+ years experience in construction of telecommunications infrastructure
  • Ability to operate appropriate computer or field equipment associated with the position
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, client, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
  • Ability to read and understand cable records, plats, and associated records
  • Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment
  • Ability to safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as survey rods, manhole hooks) within the maximum weight limitations of that equipment
  • Ability to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices
  • Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires
  • Ability to work while standing 50 – 70% of the time
  • Ability to use handheld communication devices and applications
  • Ability to travel (including during inclement weather) to and from assigned project sites and offices facilities
  • Ability to work outside for extended periods in any season and/or during inclement weather
  • Familiarity with computer operating systems
  • Ability to complete documentation accurately
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Must be able to work with or without direct supervision.

Working Conditions

  • This position works face to face with clients, construction crews & permitting agencies
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, insects, rodents, and pets
  • Work outdoors in all kinds of weather and at all times of the day or night
  • Work performed near power lines and electricity
  • Work and travel in inclement weather
  • Occasionally required to work overtime as the project needs dictate

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Pay: $25.00 – $40.00 per hour
