Outside Plant (OSP) Designer

Roehampton Communications Ltd. is a Canadian design firm comprised of young and dynamic individuals specializing in engineering services in the telecommunications industry.

As an Outside Plant (OSP) Designer, you will be responsible for the detailed design of all outside plant elements (aerial, buried and underground) of the new network using various technologies. In order to be successful in this role you will need to have OSP experience and be able to independently design copper/fiber networks. This experience is a minimum requirement for the role.

• Develop / design layouts of outside plant networks to service residents and businesses.
• Develop and define optimum route and identify type of construction required (i.e. aerial, underground, open trench, direction bore, plough, etc.)
• Field audits of utility poles identifying service providers and cable types (e.g., POWER, CATV, COAX cable, Fiber cable, copper cable,), hardware, span lengths and attachment heights.
• Conduct a route or site walk to collect data of all surface features and underground utility data necessary to support the preparation of the construction drawings that are complete and suitable for submittal to local jurisdictions to obtain construction permit
• Coordinate and obtain all land use authority and municipal permits, agreements and consents
• Coordinate and obtain local electrical authority permits including make ready and sag calculations
• Perform a right of way and route assessment to confirm the route corridor is acceptable and can be built in the most cost effective manner
• Perform field site meets; meet with developers, customers, local agencies.
• Create splicing documents for fiber network design. Generate a Bill of Materials (BOM) from a design.
