Job Responsibilities:
Can do a dedicated copper or fibre position-both available
· Must be able to splice mass and single fibre optic cable
· Interact with project manager and engineers
· Responsible for updating and maintaining project tracking information daily
· Must have OSP and ISP fiber optic splicing experience
· OSP: Splicing underground and aerial fibre, building splice closures, entering manholes and hanging splice closures from an overhead line.
· ISP: Inside terminations, installing fibre termination panels, OTDR and power meter testing.
· Must know how to perform and understand test results from OTDR and power meters
· Cultivates positive relations within the team
· Protect organizations’ values by keeping information confidential
· Pride in our organization and delivering a best-in-class result for our customer
· Clean and maintain tools and equipment
· Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays
· Climb poles and work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet
Should be knowledgeable and able to use fibre optic hand tools such as:
· Fiber strippers
· Ring tools
· Fiber identifier
· Ribbon splitter
· cleavers
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have the following Knowledge and Experience:
- OSP and ISP Fiber splicing experience
- Aerial and underground
- Be able to read and understand test results from OTDR and power meters
- Confined space training
- Familiar with site safety practices
- Be able to use various fibre optic hand tools
- Able to lift up to 80 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to interpret placing and splicing plans
- Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team
- Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently
The following skills/certification are highly desirable:
- First Aid Certificate
- Fibre optic certifications
- Safety certifications such as WHMIS, Confined Space, etc…
- Spurring
- Certified bucket truck operator
Experience Required:
· Minimum 3-year experience as a telecommunications splicer (copper or fibre) *Preference will be given to candidates with direct for Telus experience
· Possesses a Class 5 BC driver’s license
· Clean driver abstract
· Physically able to complete duties
· Must be eligible to work in Canada
