Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. Responsibilities

The Datacenter Engineering Principal Project Manager (Design Manager) will manage the engineering scope, schedule, and budget for greenfield, brownfield and retrofit engineering / design projects in Canada. This position will manage internal and external resources for the delivery of the Datacenter building, power, cooling, telecom, and controls infrastructure to align with Microsoft Corporation datacenter capacity roadmap.

The Canada Design Manager will be responsible for the facilitation and delivery of Microsoft’s industry-leading datacenter designs including the development of new technology and advanced concepts from Site Due Diligence and pre-programming through design development, permitting, construction, and the turnover to Operations. This role will provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadership for our datacenter architectural and engineering designs. To be successful in this role the candidate will oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules and budgets of the projects. The Canada Design Manager will engage with key stakeholder groups within Microsoft as well as outside vendors who specialize in datacenter architecture and engineering.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field

High level of proficiency in commercial and industrial architecture and engineering

Technical understanding of mission critical environments

Ability to lead teams of architects and engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large datacenter environments

Highly effective leadership and team-building skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Intense focus on process and quality management

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in architecture, engineering, and/or program/construction management for mission critical or high-tech industry

Minimum of 5 years’ experience as project or team manager

Experience working in the Canadian market is preferred
