What can I expect to do in this role?
In this position, you will:
- provide telecommunications systems expertise, including radio, emergency services and public safety mobile radio, telephone, videoconferencing, and data networks
- work with stakeholders to provide advice on new and changed system requirements, system design and maintenance issues, and ensure technical integrity and operational capability
- coordinate multiple concurrent projects and activities, lead or participate in technical projects, and provide functional expertise and guidance to team members
Please note that this position involves highway driving over long distances, sometimes under adverse weather conditions and in remote locations. You will also be required to lift heavy boxes and equipment, and operate in hot and smoky conditions when working around fire base camps.
How do I qualify?
Knowledge of telecommunication technologies and systems:
- You have demonstrated expertise with telecommunication, radio/mobile radio and videoconferencing technologies.
- You have proven troubleshooting skills to resolve technical problems and service issues.
- You are able to ensure operations align with telecommunications policies and standards.
Project leadership skills:
- You have project management, coordination, and organization skills to manage multiple, concurrent activities and project resources.
- You are able to provide team leadership, schedule and assign work, provide training and ensure quality of work performed by unit staff and external consultants.
Communication and relationship management skills:
- You have proven consultation and presentation skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- You have written communication skills to prepare a variety of correspondence.
- You have relationship management skills to liaise effectively with clients and service providers.
- You have persuasion and negotiating skills to work with clients and service providers to develop service level agreements, resolve service problems including major service disruptions, and develop permanent solutions.
