About the SnT…
SnT is a leading international research and innovation centre in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services. We play an instrumental role
in Luxembourg by fueling innovation through research partnerships with industry, boosting R&D investments leading to economic growth, and attracting
highly qualified talent.
We’re looking for people driven by excellence, excited about innovation, and looking to make a difference. If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the
right place!
Your Role…
The University of Luxembourg is seeking to hire a highly motivated and an outstanding engineer in the area of (i) AI / ML and (ii) embedded systems for
wireless communication, to work on the recently EU (Horizon Europe) granted project AVATAR (digitAl twin for transformatiVe Air vehicle with ioT sensors
towards sAfeR skies). AVATAR aims at designing, creating and testing a Digital Twin model/system to continuously monitor the operation of transformative
air vehicles (TAV) through an innovative smart IoT sensing skin, informed by accurate physical models and advanced analytics, resulting in reduced direct
operative costs, extended service life and safer skies. In this context, one of the main project axes that will be investigated is the data transfer
within the air-vehicle as well as their processing for predicting the remaining useful life (RUL) of the aircraft.
The successful RnD specialist candidate will be supporting the SnT research groups involved in AVATAR when it comes to implementation tasks/activities,
and particularly (i) SERVAL research group in the implementation and testing of AI/ML-based Digital Twin models for aircraft predictive maintenance
purposes; (ii) SIGCOM research group in the implementation and testing of intra-air vehicle communication system (for data transfer). The RnD specialist
will thus evolve in an interdisciplinary environment, and is expected to be autonomous and a conductive member of the SERVAL and SIGCOM.
The successful candidate is expected to perform the following tasks:
* Investigation of wireless communication protocols for intra-avionics systems
* Optimal protocol to transfer the collected sensor data to air vehicle central processing unit
* Integrateand test the selected protocol hardware and software components into an end-to-end testbed
* Implementationand testing of ML techniques to process the received sensor data atair-vehicle central processing unit (Edge processing)
* Remaining Useful Life (RUL) prediction
* Reduction of data to be transferred tothe cloud on ground
* Contributing to the dissemination of the research results.
* Collaborate in ongoing ESA, European, and national projects.
* Assisting in the organization of relevant workshops and demos.
Your Profile…
Qualification: The candidate should possess a MSc degree in Computer science or Electronics/Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering with an experience
of accomplishment in the area of Embedded Systems for Wireless Communications and Machine Learning/Data Science.
