RF/HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coax) Designer – Telecommunications

DFX Technical Services INC. is a telecommunications design and engineering service provider in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area.

The RF/HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coax) Designer position will perform a variety of technical, design, and GIS/CAD duties related to the design of outside plant (OSP) telecommunications projects. Duties include but are not limited to the design/layout of fibre, preparation of engineering drawings, interaction with customers/developers and field audits. The role requires a highly motivated self-starter who posses the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a large cross-functional team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design extensions and complete small system redesigns in accordance with customer design specifications

• Complete forward and reverse system RF CATV design work

• Utilize AutoCAD or other customer specified software to post strand mapping data, MDU designs, complete large fibre designs, node segmentations and to post fibre designs

• Produce consistent and high quality HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) designs including: FTTC and FTTB and/or drafts using

• Produce consistent and high quality FTTH/S (Fibre-to-the-home/suite designs) and/or drafts using SpatialNet

• Process engineering change orders to ensure that all related work is completed, accurate and all related documentation is acquired and routed properly

• Perform quality control checks on field mapping notes and/or map digitizing to ensure all drafting and RF design specifications have been met

• Perform quality control checks on all designs to verify powering specifications are met

• Sum meterage that is associated with field mapping notes, digitizing routing maps, and design maps, while differentiating between aerial and underground plant as required

• Provide accurate information on strand maps, design maps, BOM’s, and/or digital files to construction or maintenance personnel as required

• All other duties as required

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• 1-2 years’ experience with producing HFC (hybrid fibre coax) designs

• 1-2 years’ experience drafting in AutoCAD is preferred
• Experience with SpatialNet required
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to think analytically, apply sound judgement, and solve complex problems
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Highly organized and detail-oriented
• May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
• Sitting at a desk for 6-8 hours a day

Salary: $24.00-$32.00 per hour
