JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:

  • Acts as work leader, provides technical direction to and performs some of the same functions as

the Electrical Technician job.

  • Assists in writing technical reports and test procedures under the project leadership of an

engineer or technologist.

  • Assists in the development of new and non-standard test procedures under the project

leadership of an engineer or technologist.

  • Designs and builds custom testing and measurement equipment under the project leadership of

an engineer or technologist.

  • Performs repairs and maintenance on test equipment that are beyond the routine scope of the

Electrical Technician job.

  • Acts as a project leader on internal maintenance and development projects.

  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the

job.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate of Technology from an Institute of Technology in Electronics (power/control option),

Electrical, Power, Telecommunications, Instrumentation or Automation disciplines with preference

given to the discipline directly relating to the position or lab.

  • Additional training in the development, setup and operation of high power electrical testing

equipment required.

  • Three (3) years of related experience working in a lab setting up and performing tests on a

variety of electrical power equipment and components.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Electrical Field Services team provides testing and inspection services for vehicle mounted aerial

devices and insulated and safety tools. We provide full range of testing for bucket trucks and hot-
sticks including inspection, and high-voltage dielectric testing on-site. In addition to insulated

safety tools, we also provide assembly of new worker protection grounds (WPG), inspection,

testing, repairs, and recertification of existing grounds. This service can also be provided in our

shop or in the field.

  • Certificate/ Diploma in Electrical Technology discipline is required for this role
  • General technical knowledge in power system safety equipment (grounds, hotsticks, bucket

trucks) , DC and AC High Voltage Testing would be an asset.

  • Introductory knowledge of project management
  • Knowledge of substation and/or distribution equipment would be an asset
  • Field testing experience and is highly desirable.
  • Drafting skills would be an asset
  • Experience in High Voltage Testing is desirable
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis equipment is desirable

  • Must hold a valid class five (5) driver’s licence.
  • Must be able to work in confined space
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work at heights > 10 feet
  • Frequent travel across various locations in BC will be required particularly in the summer and

spring time.

  • Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the role
