Reporting to the CFO in Montreal with a dotted line to the Director of Project Operations in Halifax, IT is seeking a Senior IT Technician – Level 2 to join our Halifax team in a full-time in-office, permanent staff position. The chosen candidate will have exceptional troubleshooting, customer service and communication skills. They will demonstrate a hands-on, problem-solving approach while managing staff expectations in a professional and friendly manner. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working closely with on-site and remote users from all cross-functional departments within the organization.

Job Description

The Senior IT Technician – Level 2 will work autonomously in Halifax. He will be responsible for providing technical advice & guidance to onsite and remote users, remote users on ships as well as providing a variety of IT support services (both hardware & software) including but not limited to equipment installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting and general IT administration and maintenance. This position also requires periodic after-hours support.

Technical Requirements

Strong knowledge of the following:

• User desktop support: Connectwise, Windows 10/11
• Nortel BCM50, Solidworks
• O365 suite – Server 2008, 2012r2, 2016, 2019
• VmWare. EXSI
• AD, GPO
• Firewalls -Watchguard
• Network switching (good knowledge)
• Network printers
• VPN Technologies
• NAS (Buffalo Terrastation, LenovoEMC), Veeam, Camera Systems

Qualifications and Skills

• Successful completion of a post-secondary program in computer science, information technology or other related to the position.
• 5 to 8 years of experience in a similar role.
• A combination of education, professional development and experience may be considered.
• Customer service oriented.
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
• Willing to learn new technologies.
• Able to work autonomously, with little supervision.
• Experience in a Marine/Ship communications environment considered an asset.
