Senior Network Engineer

Serving the community since 1961, a large healthcare client we support is a nationally recognized, private, not-for-profit health care organization founded and based in Raleigh, N.C. The largest health system in Wake County. This company is a leader in cardiac and vascular care, women’s and children’s services, emergency medicine and trauma care, physical rehabilitation, orthopedics and neurosciences.

The Network Team:

There is currently a team of 5 people on the networking team consisting of various different skill sets. They are building the team to 7 people with this individual and a more senior level network engineer. The network consists of about 500 switches, about 25 routers, and 2200 access points. They currently use ServiceNow for their access management tool.

Individual Responsibility:

This person will be responsible for coming in and understanding the clients Network environment from a detailed technical perspective. They need this person to then help the organization understand how to be implement Network segmentation. This person will help the roadmap and process creation for Network segmentation. Along with this, this individual will need to understand how network security relates to understanding how segmentation improves monitoring and lines of defense, reducing risk to the systems and network. They will also be responsible high level trouble shooting and working with the network team on routing and switching in a Cisco environment.

Coordinates activities with Telecommunications, Infrastructure Services, and Desktop Services to successfully prevent and resolve connectivity and/or network quality issues. Proactive with documentation and training of staff to support all Network Services. Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure a stable and highly reliable enterprise network. Works closely with business units, end users, and vendors resulting in cost-effective solutions for growth and success. Monitors network hardware via network management systems and provides reports. Provides support for fault resolution and system recovery on a 24 hour basis as needed.

This is not a 24/7 shop. SolarWinds will take on the monitoring while they are off-shift but the team does share oncall rotation, there is a stipend for this.

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise to all planning, designing implementation, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintaining and optimization all aspects of LAN/WAN/WLAN, optical network systems and wireless networks. Designs, plans installation, configures, and troubleshoots large routed, switched and wireless networks and demonstrates mastery of network fundamentals. Helps to secure operation, as well as, participate in disaster recovery (DR) preparation to ensure reliable communications are in place. Performs research, evaluation, installation, and upgrades of Network Infrastructure and related systems. Coordinates activities with Telecommunications, Infrastructure Services, and Desktop Services to successfully prevent and resolve connectivity and/or network quality issues. Experience Requirements:

8 Years Related Position Experience Required – With Bachelor’s Degree 10 Years Related Position Experience Required – With Associate’s Degree 12 Years Related Position Experience Required – With High School Diploma

Certifications:

If they don’t have a Cisco Certification – will have one year to obtain CCNA, CCNP
