The Role

As a Senior Network Technician, you will be responsible for managing the signaling-related network element tables on the Company’s network. You will perform translations requiring technical expertise as well as excellent troubleshooting skills. You will mentor, train and assist lower level Technicians in daily activities.
You will work without immediate supervision, perform varying tasks of high complexity requiring the application of both standard and non-standard procedures and be called upon to make technical and business impacting decisions pertaining to signaling translations and products on the Company Network.
You will also Interact with Voice Routing, Tier III, Engineering, NOC, Planning, Test and Turnup, Service Activation, CCM, Product, Billing/Usage Processing, vendors, customers, and peers on signaling-related migrations, projects, questions and issues on a daily/weekly basis.


The Main Responsibilities

  • Performs translations including but not limited to the generation and application of routing to the Company’s switches and the data filling of routing, screening, and trunk group tables.
  • Supports the NOC and TSC on second level trouble issues. Trouble-shoots complex SS7 issues on the network. Provides proactive monitoring/maintenance of switches.Works on expedites, escalations and service impacting events with high degree of urgency and skill for self and peers as needed.
  • Provides guidance and input to Architecture & Engineering on new products, and participates or manages projects to implement new products and standards on the network and performs any related SS7 translations.
  • Delegates and prioritizes work for self and team as required. Monitors priorities to ensure team objectives are met. Implements process improvements and documentation. Mentors, assists, and provides training to lower-level Translations Engineers in daily activities.


What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Knowledge of SS7 voice translations relating primarily to the Lucent 5ESS, Sonus, or Nortel DMS family of switches. Advanced knowledge of the following is expected: SS7 Signaling, Network Operations, VoIP Signaling Methods, Transport Engineering, Circuit Provisioning, LERG.
  • Should have an advanced ability to trap, trace, and troubleshoot network calls, including messaging, and/or call traces from Network Elements. Should be able to analyze and interpret patterns and scenarios in network traffic and make connections across multiple network elements.
  • Must have an excellent understanding of all aspects of SS7 and switch translations and call processing.
  • Must be organized and multi-task oriented with excellent communication skills. Should have good typing skills, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Must be dependable, willing to work closely with other groups, and contribute to a team environment.
  • Must be willing to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime. Must support and respond to callouts after hours
  • Must support and adhere to the Company’s Universal Competencies and Unifying Principles
  • Will be called upon to answer complex technical questions from other Translations Engineers, departments, and customers and participate in the design of ‘best practice’ SS7 translations and procedures.

Experience:

  • Associates Degree or 10 Years of Experience Equivalent
  • Must have experience in Telecommunications or Related Field
  • 7-10 years experience as a Technician
