The Senior SQL Database Administrator will be accountable for database administration, design, build and tune mission critical Microsoft SQL Server environments as a team member of Database SQL Server operations team providing technical solutions for Optum Technology clients.
A typical day will involve standard SQL Server DBA duties like applying SQL Server patches, supporting database backups and restores, working on any performance tuning requirements, and live monitoring of databases. An individual in this DBA role will also work closely with application support and development teams to refine, tune & optimize SQL scripts and assist in application release deployments and support any database break-fix type requests. On a day to day basis, DBA will be on point to run database health checks and troubleshot / remediate any findings. On a project basis, upgrades of current SQL Server lower version environments to latest version will also be in-scope for DBA duties in this position.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Installation, administration, configuration & migration of SQL 2019-2014 and supported lower version of Microsoft SQL Servers
- Respond to War room Alerts & Pages in a timely manner as per SLA
- Define Backup / Recovery strategy
- Regular Production Ops DBA support tasks
- Design and architect various high availability and disaster recovery solution as well long term archival process
- Experience on different type of database backup, replication, recovery, restoration, solutions
- Excellent knowledge in other RDBMS and cross platform technology concepts
- Knowledge on Azure or cloud based solutions on SQL platform, supporting key, business initiatives
- Experience on automation and PowerShell scripting to build infrastructure for automation
- Experiences on BI, Data ware housing architecture and implementations
- Design, implement and maintain all functions of database systems, including access, methods and time, device allocations, validation checks, organization, security, documentation, and statistical methodology
- Assists in development of systems and procedures affecting database management, design and maintenance
- Support problem resolution; consult and advise in application design and tuning; plan, organize and execute product benchmarks for threshold and functionality
- Participate in product evaluations, design review session, data requirement meetings and consulting with application development product
- Performance Tuning Queries & Debugging SQL server performance and take other proactive measures to keep SQL servers up and running healthy
- Project Delivery on time for SQL PLM & other assigned SQL projects
- Review ongoing and proposed projects to identify opportunities for reuse and process improvement
- Review technical documentation to verify compliance with client requirements and established architectural standards and guidelines
- Work on SQL OPS tickets and complete them as per defined SLAs
- Co-ordinate with other infrastructure teams like windows, VMware, network, SAN teams to address any infrastructure related issue on the SQL servers
- Be available online & respond to pings and emails in a timely manner during core business hours (09.00 AM 05.00 PM Central during weekdays when not on-call) to work tickets & handle email escalations

R equired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of solid Microsoft SQL Server database administration experience
- 5+ years of experience with relational databases, database structures and design, systems design, data management, data warehouse
- Participate in 12×7 on-call DBA support
- Experience troubleshooting performance issues with SQL Server
- Proven ability to prioritize, coordinate, and manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
- Proven excellent interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Core MSSQL Server experience with SSIS & SSRS support expertise
- Power shell & DevOps experience
- Power BI Reports Development & Support experience is an added benefit
- Experience with production SQL support for OLTP, Datawarehouse & reporting, Azure Cloud, AWS, ADF
- Professional experience in the health care industry

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary/hourly range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
