There’s never been a better time to join the team at Great British Communications (GBC). Part of the United Living Group, we are a progressive and fast-paced business with growth aspirations which will see our Group turnover double to more than £1bn within the next 5 years. We’re at the forefront of the wireless telecoms industry and have recently secured an exciting contract in the fixed line space which is expected to grow expediently. This has created the need for an experienced SHEQ Manager to join the team based out of Widnes, where we will be involved in the design and build of fibre to the premises across the North West and Wales.

The role of SHEQ Manager is a new scope of work for us and will introduce an additional level of risk into the business, in addition to increased headcount via a supply chain delivery model. You will be the SHEQ lead for this function, with responsibility for:

• Ensuring the client, senior management, SHEQ, operational and design teams have SHEQ management advice and guidance on a full-time basis.
• Supporting management teams with the implementation of the United Living zero-harm strategy, which will contribute to achieving zero RIDDORs, LTIs and environmental incidents.
• Ensuring that the Health and Wellbeing and Quality agenda is being driven at the required level.

The successful SHEQ Manager will ideally have prior experience within the Telecoms sector, with working knowledge of the risks associated with excavation and street works activity. You will be passionate about ensuring that all SHEQ matters are integral to successful contracts, and will work in partnership with the client and colleagues to ingrain this in day to day operations. In addition, you will possess the following:

• Diploma (or equivalent) in Health & Safety.
• Membership of a safety or environmental professional body or engineering institute to incorporated or chartered level.
• Ability to communicate and influence at all levels, to recommend preventative action, develop new initiatives and ensure their implementation.
• A good understanding of CDM Regulations, specifically in relation to Client, Principal Designer & Principal Contractor role.
• Full UK driving license with access to a vehicle for work purposes.
