As a global provider of intelligent network and service solutions, Ciena helps some of the world’s largest networks produce more – more data services for emerging market opportunities and more efficiency through network convergence and automation. The Agile and Programmable Optical Transport (APOT) organization’s mission is to develop next generation optical transport products and solutions and it focusses on the Photonics Transport layer, as well as the Enterprise applications, including Data Centre Interconnect.
The successful candidate will work within APOT organization as a member of the Photonic Product Assurance Team, which is responsible for ensuring the quality and performance of the software and hardware being developed as it is integrated into a product solution in preparation for handoff to our Product Verification team. The team performs software integration manually and automatically as well as developing tools to automate various test suites.
The focus of this position will be to assist in test automation and data analysis tool/script development.
JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
Our team is looking for an energetic student software designer that is eager to participate in the design and development of software test automation and data analysis tools. The tools, usually in the form of scripts, are for increasing the usability and coverage of our software and hardware solutions. Specific responsibilities include some of the following depending on the candidate’s qualification and interests:
- Development and maintenance of scripts for automate system integration level test cases/suites.
- Configuring and connecting nodes remotely.
- Executing automated test scripts, interpreting and reporting results and help in debugging problems
- Assist in resolution of problems reported and contribute to improved product quality in functionality, performance, robustness, and hardening, etc. areas.
- Working closely with test engineers, SW designers and systems architects to understand the product capabilities and expected behaviour.
- Support the product verification and integration test teams on common tools.

REQUIRED SKILLS
- Working knowledge on one or more of scripting language like Python, JavaScript, Bash Shell script, Expect, Perl, HTML
- Familiarity with using a source code repository system like git/bitbucket, GitHub, etc
DESIRED SKILLS
- Software development and test process
- Familiarity with Linux based workstations and OS
- Familiarity with datacom & telecom concepts such as DWDM, OTN, Ethernet, TCP/IP
- Familiarity with software simulation and software integration
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated, strong communicator, team player, problem solver and ability to multi-task
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- 2nd – 3rd year Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
- Previous programming experience on a related school project or other related experience through hobbies, clubs, etc.
