Well-being & Safety Specialist
The Well-being & Safety Specialist’s primary responsibility is to support Rogers integrated Safety and Well-being program.
The role will involve management and execution of a range of activities to minimize employee absenteeism, support timely return to work and influence the well-being of employees at work. Understanding of disability management programs such as Short-Term Disability (STD), Long-Term Disability (LTD) and Workers’ Compensation (WC), and experience working with third-party adjudicators and insurers will support success. Additionally, the role will involve supporting the organization in identifying and addressing workplace hazards, and in achieving and, where appropriate, exceeding compliance with applicable legislation.
The Well-being & Safety Specialist will act as a source of guidance and information for Safety Committees, Operations, and Human Resources in Quebec and the Ottawa Region and will communicate with clients in both English and French.
The Specialist will be based in Montreal and will report to the Team Manager, Well-being.
Well-being Responsibilities:
- Consult and act as a subject matter expert regarding management and administration of disability claims, STD/LTD/WC, and on all matters relating to disability, absenteeism, accommodation and return to work planning
- Advise and assist clients with workplace accommodations to support attendance or gradual/modified return to work following absences due to illness or injury
- Support and contribute to the integrated program by providing subject matter expertise and driving the effective implementation of the corporate well-being strategy with internal client groups and third party vendors
- Implement targeted well-being plans in client groups to influence employee physical and mental well-being and support material reduction in disability rates, duration, and costs Prepare correspondence and other claims related documentation
- Maintain confidential employee health records
- Maintain expertise in Human Resources and well-being legislation and best practices, and understand their impact on Operations
- Liaise with 3rd party vendor to drive improved disability claims administration processes conducting regular meetings with vendor to review protocol, processes, statistics, case management progress, etc.
Safety Responsibilities:
- Provide expertise on hazard identification, assessment, and control
Assist managers with incident reporting and investigation
- Provide guidance on internal complaint resolution
- Support Safety Committees and Safety Representatives in effectively representing their groups
- Support the implementation of strategic Safety & Well-being projects
- Support clients in meeting legislative requirements
- Communicate with safety regulators
- Maintain expertise in safety legislation and best practices, and understand their impact on operations
Qualifications:
- Bilingualism (English and French) is required
- University degree in related field – health related discipline or Human Resources is an asset
- Minimum of five years previous experience in return to work facilitation; with focus on disability management
- Disability Management designation (i.e. Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC), Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP)) or Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) is an asset
- Knowledge of HR legislation related to management of employee absences, accommodations, management of CNESST claims and expertise in occupational health and safety regulations preferred
- Experience with complex return-to-work facilitation in a unionized environment
- Experience interpreting occupational safety legislation and providing guidance on compliance is an asset
- Demonstrated dispute resolution skills and solution-oriented case management is an asset;
- Strong written, presentation and verbal communication skills (French and English) is an asset;
- Ability to travel within the region
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, and reliable access to a personal vehicle;
- Experience in the telecommunications industry is an asset;
