Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Project Management within the Office of Project Management (OPM), the Sr Project Manager is responsible for the overall management and execution of large, complex design and construction projects which includes renovations, additions, and new construction in the healthcare environment, both on the main campus and off-site locations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
Functions
- Works collaboratively with all levels of the hospital interdisciplinary team, including leadership, and promotes the team concept within their department and hospital wide.
- Participates and develops all project budgets, schedules, and logistics plans in conjunction with the portfolio of the OPM and its responsibilities.
- Supports the hospital initiatives and projects, and functions as a positive change agent.
- Attends meetings as scheduled/required and communicates hospital policies, performance improvement initiatives and all other required information to their staff.
- Participates in committees, task forces, projects, etc. as required.
- Promotes a positive and professional image and is a role model, coach, mentor and resource for staff and peers.
- Assures the delivery of quality department /clinical services in accordance with established hospital and regulatory/accreditation agency standards.
- Complies with hospital and Human Resources policies and procedures
- Participates in the Performance Improvement Program as defined by the organization.
- Maintains knowledge related to the operations and procedures of their department.
- Demonstrates positive customer service and fosters positive employee relations.
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Adheres to safety standards for employees.
- Attends and participates in educational programs or activities to maintain level of knowledge or expertise related to assigned responsibilities.
- Completes required staff orientation, annual and ongoing competency, and education requirements.
Responsibilities
- Manages single projects up to $60M for a single project, or in aggregate for multiple projects, from programming, through design, construction, and closeout. Supervises in-house or contracted project managers in a matrixed reporting structure.
- Manages all aspects of health care construction projects including regulatory submissions, budgets, schedules, design process, construction process, quality control, and adherence to project specifications and drawings.
- Develops capital budgets for proposed construction, renovation and move projects.
- Prepares proposals for construction work including sketches and cost estimates for labor, equipment, furniture, and materials.
- Meets with department heads and other representatives to determine the functional space program needs for proposed construction projects. Develops end user programs by directly overseeing design meetings with hospital employees and design consultants.
- Directs architects and other consultants to accomplish designs and specifications within budgetary restrictions.
- Develops project equipment lists and requirements by directly overseeing coordination meetings with hospital employees and design consultants, including Department Managers, Biomedical Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technologies, Building Services, and Plant operations.
- Manages the purchasing process for projects, including design services, construction services, and materials. Reviews and approves invoices.
- Assists with phasing and means and methods of construction for complex construction projects. Ensures that final designs and specifications are within budgetary restrictions. Reviews design documents for compliance with end user programs, facility standards and needs, regulatory agency requirements and codes.
- Prepares proposals and coordinates the contractor bidding process for construction, renovation and move projects. Reviews construction bids. Negotiates cost and terms and prepares contract documents.
- Oversees capital project construction activities by directing contractors, consultants, and other service providers.
- Ensures that the organizations goals for quality and schedule are met. Manages expenses related to assigned projects within budget.
- Prepares presentations regarding the status of ongoing projects and presents this information to hospital leadership on an ongoing basis. Reports on schedule and budget variances as required.
- Develops regulatory review packages and assures compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations and accreditation standards, including: The Joint Commission, New York State Building and Health Departments, City of White Plains Building and Public Safety Departments, National Fire Protection Association standards, FGI Guidelines for the Construction of Healthcare Facilities, and others as required by individual projects.
- Maintains project records including design drawings, submittals, as-builts, correspondence, regulatory submissions, financial statements, and all other project information. Utilizes eBuilder software program for this purpose.
- Work with the facility engineering staff on construction projects, including scheduling, adherence to job specifications, quality of work installed, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Responsible for the oversight of project completion and occupancy with emphasis on construction closeout, commissioning of MEP equipment and systems, scheduling of equipment deliveries and startups, coordinating and working with all regulatory agencies, development and implementation of staff orientation and education, and financial closeout.
Education, Skills, & Experience Requirements
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or a related field required.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in business, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- Required: 12 plus years of experience in increasingly complex positions directly supervising the building design and construction process, principally in the Healthcare market sector, including experience in major additions, renovations and ground up construction. Experience managing projects $50-$100M in total project cost.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Excellent technical, conceptual, and financial skills.
- Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals.
- Experience in computer software, including Microsoft Word and Excel, MS Project, Smartsheet, and AutoCAD. Revit and Primavera P6 is a plus.

Schedule: Full Time, Day, Mon-Fri; 9:00AM-5:00PM; Occasional Weekends
