Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector is seeking a Senior Staff Systems Engineer to join the National Teams Systems Engineering and Integration team. These engineers support the development and verification of the national missile defense system, working closely with our customer the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). The position will be located in Huntsville, AL

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to use their extensive experience in the entire Systems Engineering “V”, including:

  • Understanding warfighter needs,
  • Balancing system architecture to achieve needs,E
  • Expressing these needs in system elements, functions, and requirements,
  • Employing advanced technologies to develop and integrate those functions to build the system, or system of systems
  • Testing and verification of design to meet the warfighter requirements.

The candidate will be a subject matter expert in several fields and will be a thought leader in the use of those fields to architect new system designs and new ways to define and evaluate complex systems.

Basic Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, the candidate must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.

  • 14 years with Bachelor of Science; 10 Years with Masters; 7 Years with PhD. Degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or any STEM topic.
  • Current/Active Secret Clearance required to startExperience in architecture & requirements development for network-centric, software intensive DoD systems.
  • Generating system/element level functional, performance, and interface specifications to document and control the achievement of the desired capabilities.
  • Management of system and component baselines in a requirements management system

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in STEM field
  • Top Secret Clearance
  • Missile Defense experience
  • Experience in development of U.S. Air and Missile Defense systems (e.g., IBCS, PATRIOT, MEADS, THAAD, GMD, etc.)
  • Detailed understanding of defense planning and task force laydowns
  • Familiarity with advanced technology applicable to missile defense, including TRL
  • Demonstrated experience as SME, influencer, thought leader at senior level
  • Experience as MDA/SDA employee, military member, FFRDS/UARC/National Lab employee or SETA. Demonstrate customer intimacy.
  • Effective communicator with senior leadership and with junior technical staff
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring and team development

Employees in Vice President or Director positions be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
