Structured Cabling Field Technician WesMart, Inc. – Woodbridge, VA

JOB DESCRIPTIONType: Full time permanent position

Pay: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour (DOE)

Hours: Monday to Friday from 6:00am to 2:30pm

Location: Will report to one location in the morning.

Schedule: 8-hour shift Monday to Friday

MUST HAVE: Minimum 5 years’ experience with structural wiring/cabling

  • Experience in planning network installations by using work orders, plans, manuals, and technical specifications; ordering and gathering equipment, supplies, materials, and tools, assessing installation site.
  • Establish voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing copper and fiber optic cables.
  • Mount telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, TVs, cable trays, and alarm systems; installation of racks and cabinets all while following industry standards, best practices, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Must work well with little supervision individually and in a team environment.

DUTIES:

  • Install cable pathway systems, fire stop systems, various electronic components, and various cable that includes but not limited to twisted pair cable, coax, fiber optic & low voltage cable, under direct supervision.
  • Cable installation includes placement, termination, testing, labeling and documentation.
  • Establish voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing copper and fiber optic cables.
  • Mount telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, TVs multiplexers, cable trays, and alarm systems; installation of racks and cabinets all while following industry standards, best practices, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Install cable pathway systems (cable trays, cable racks, J-Hooks or D-Rings) by using power or manual fasteners, drills, or other power equipment.
  • Document network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
  • Maintain customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns, answering questions.
  • Maintain safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal requirements.
  • Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipts.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of cable terminations, color codes, and installation standards.
  • Knowledge of types of telecommunication cables and equipment along with appropriate usage.
  • Knowledge of types of anchoring hardware along with appropriate usage for specific wall/ceiling surfaces.
  • General construction skills for the installation of field devices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Regular and Timely Attendance.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 4 hours) without a break.
  • Position requires bending, twisting, stooping, and climbing.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Position requires pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds frequently and 40 pounds occasionally.
  • May be exposed to temperature changes, heights, small spaces including confined spaces.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and use hands for repetitive fine manipulation frequently.
  • Must pass initial and random substance abuse tests & background checks.
