Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for the effective selection, training, development and performance management of staff to ensure the right talent is in place to achieve goals.
Prepares work schedules for seven-day 24-hour switchboard operation and collaborates with staff to ensure full coverage. Remains available via pager for staffing problems more than 70% of a 168-hour week. Provides direct operatator support directly as needed.
Provides up-to-date information to staff in a changing environment.
a. Assigns various types of pagers to hospital staff; maintains manual as well as engages in CRT data entry for operator use.
b. Prepares hospital directories, annually; updates manual master and engages in CRT data entry for operator use.
c. Prepares master manual on-call schedules from department schedules and engages in timely CRT data entry for operator use.
Assists in identifying mechanical failures of pagers; operator consoles; and computerized paging, registry and operator services system, notifying technician, department director, or vendor. Performs diagnostic tests and corrective action via system printer as directed by paging system vendor.
Assists hospital leadership in the development of department and interdepartmental policies and procedures by providing information as requested.
Educates the hospital community on use of pagers , direct inward dial, department procedures, and so forth.
Orders department supplies; approving payment of designated invoices; prepares weekly department payroll; arranges for the repair of designated equipment; maintains a variety of records; gathers statistical information for leadership as needed.
Monitors operations and customer satisfaction in order to improve level of service wherever possible.
Required Qualifications
Excellent service skills to support patient, visitor, and staff needs.
2-3 years related and progressively more responsible experience, buidling a team and leading a vital operation for the hospital.
Analytical skills necessary in order to determine appropriate testing procedures for system changes and troubleshooting.
Technical knowledge of telecommunications systems normally acquired with on-the-job experience and training.
Speed and accuracy in using VDT keyboards, normally acquired through basic typing or computer experience.
One year of experience in healthcare preferred.
