THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is seeking a Surveyor to assist the District Chief of Surveys in a variety of tasks described below. Supervise all field survey crews. Apply today!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Reviews and schedules work assignments for the field survey crews. Receives survey requests from all district units which survey supports. Researches existing records and as-built plans for survey information. Decides appropriate staffing required to complete the survey and assigns the job to a Survey Technician Supervisor. Reviews the work upon completion and ensures accuracy of retrieved information.

Monitors and tracks the progress of the completion of survey requests. Monitor daily activities of the survey crews to ensure they are in compliance with the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for the safety of the crew and the motoring public.

Develops Open Roads alignments for inhouse projects. Assists Project Managers with developing property mosaics for inhouse projects. Assists in reviewing LGTS. Assists in reviewing R/W plans developed by inhouse squads. Assists with researching R/W records as needed. Assists with field survey operations as needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 5 days in a 2-week period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Surveyor Technician Supervisor; or
  • Five years of responsible surveying work, including one year as a chief of party of a wide variety of surveying assignments; and graduation from high school. An Associate Degree in surveying or engineering technology be substituted for one year of non-specialized experience; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a registered surveyor’s license as issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, or possession of a registered surveyor’s license obtained in another public jurisdiction under requirements which are at least equal to those of Pennsylvania.
