War Child Canada’s Afghanistan program advances social impact in the lives of vulnerable children, women and their families through its economic empowerment, psychosocial support and child protection programs. The programs are being implemented through local partner organizations in eight provinces Kabul, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Balkh, Kunduz, Takhar, Logar and Badakhshan.

The Technical Specialist will be responsible to back-end and front-end website design and development and mobile application to ensure the affected population have greater access to the information. They will be also responsible for building and deploying new front-end features to the website, handling the integration of plugins, and performing routine maintenance of the website. The Technical Specialist will also build and grow the capacity of relevant WCC staff on maintaining and updating of the website and Mobile Apps on regular basis.

This is a two (2) month consultancy role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coding the website navigation and creating basic website layouts and user interfaces.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs.
  • Creating mock-ups of the website for the organization’s approval and incorporate management and stakeholders’ inputs, suggestion, and comments in creating the final design
  • Fixing any functionality issues, including the removal of “dead links”
  • Develop Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to support functionality of mobile devices.
  • Engage with users to better understand their needs and opportunities for improvements.
  • Ensuring that the website (platform) and Mobile Apps are user-friendly.
  • Provide inputs in quality donor reporting including data and information required by the donor and WCC management on ad hoc basis.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Project Manager and WCC Management

Key Deliverables:

  • Submit draft designing algorithms and flowcharts to create new software programs and applications.
  • Share a pre-designed website with relevant WCC, UNPFA, and its partner staff for testing and inputs.
  • Website and mobile app developed.
  • Develop capacity building plan, and conduct capacity building session for relevant stakeholders.
  • Handover the coding of sites navigation to relevant staff at WCC

Academic Background and Knowledge/ Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree will be preferred) in information technology, computer science, web development, software development, or programming.
  • Five (5) years relevant professional experience in web development and API development
  • Strong knowledge of graphic designing
  • Extensive knowledge about Website and Mobile Apps development, including the whole process, from the first line of code to publishing and the web space and stores.

Skills

  • Proficient in web development fundamentals, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Proficiency with Front-end JavaScript frameworks such as Vue, React, and Angular
  • Proficiency with Back-end frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Node.js, and ASP.NET
  • Background with Content management systems (CMSs) such as WordPress, Joomla, and Squarespace
  • Previous UI/UX design experience
  • Proficiency with Back-end programming languages such as C++, C#, Java, PHP, Net, Python, SQL and My SQL
  • Proficiency in relation Data bases such SQL, MySQL, Java DB etc.
