The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this job. SUMMARY:
Under the general direction, the incumbent serves as a Telecommunication Technician in the Department of Information Technology. Overall responsibilities will include repairing, installing, troubleshooting, modifying and upgrading the voice/data network and DC Water’s telecommunication systems and related equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain and troubleshoot LAN networks, voice and data endpoints cabling plants, and communication rooms.
- Perform moves, adds, and changes of communication endpoints utilizing work order support system.
- Assist Network engineers and Telephony administrator in resolving complex voice and data communication issues within enterprise network.
- Maintains documentation of voice/data jacks endpoints and inside and outside cable plants.
- Maintains and increases technical knowledge through coursework, workshops, training, seminars, readings and cross-training with other team members.
- Cleans and services equipment and tools.
- Repairs and redeploys equipment when feasible.
- Prepares regular and special reports.
- Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE & OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
The minimum qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.
- High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and three (3) years of related progressive experience in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic cable and Category 5e, 6 and 6a twisted pair copper cabling network infrastructure.
- BICSI or Fiber Optic Industry Certification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Fiber optic cable testing, splicing, terminating and troubleshooting preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License and a DC Water Vehicle Endorsement.

Knowledge of telecommunication system operating techniques, data and voice communications requirements, and advanced troubleshooting.

Familiar with Audio Codes(analog), Skype and Teams (IP) Telephony Systems desired.
- Knowledge of operating PC with support software applications.
- Knowledge of telecommunication transition process including planning the floor plan design, cabling infrastructure design, the telephone instrument relocation, service testing, service acceptance and follow-up.
- Basic understanding of radio trunk sequence and Distributed Antenna System (DAS).
- Ability to use telecommunication field testing equipment with emphasis on multi meter, Fluke VERSIV OTDR and Fluke Networks Link runner 2000, fiber optic power meter, etc.
- Candidate must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft office 365 desired.
