Southeast Utilities of Georgia (“SEU”) offers full-service construction, repair and emergency services related to Cable TV, Telephone, Fiber-Optic communications and Power construction including underground trenching, plowing, missile and directional boring and aerial construction. Over the last 24 years, SEU’s charter to provide high quality construction services and customer satisfaction has never wavered. We have grown to over 340 employees with 14 offices in 7 states.

Job Summary:

BACKGROUND: Southeast Utilities of Georgia (“SEU”) is hiring, but more than that, we are training. We are looking for interested and motivated folks to join our team and learn a career in the telecom construction industry. SEU specializes in constructing wireless, broadband, fiber & telecommunications infrastructure across the Southeast, and is a part of a larger, national telecommunications company. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals looking to begin a career in a growing and financially rewarding industry.

Coax Splicers perform tasks associated with the aerial and underground construction and splicing of coaxial cable for cable television and fiber optic communication systems. As a Coax Splicer Candidate, you will become enrolled in our custom and proprietary in-house, specialized course of instruction to learn the duties, responsibilities, and skills of a Coax Splicer. Generally, our in-house Splicers earn between $70k and $100k yearly on production-based compensation.

If selected for our Training Class, you will:

(a) become a full-time employee with SEU,

(b) receive 100% tuition assistance while enrolled in the Coax Splicing course,

(c) be provided hotel lodging at no charge to you for the duration of the class, if needed,

(d) receive per diem payments for each day student attends class to assist with meals, and

(e) become eligible for paid time off and holiday pay.

These benefits will continue so long as you are employed with SEU and making satisfactory progress in the course.

After graduating from the course, you will have acquired special skills in splicing, activations, testing, troubleshooting and more.

Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

  • Enroll in our Splicer Training Class.
  • Attend class Mondays through Fridays, arriving on time and participating fully;
  • Successfully complete assessments, tests, or exams, as well as hands-on activities.
  • Read and interpret work orders, specifications, engineering drawings and/or cut sheets to determine work to be done in sequence of task.
  • Repair or splice in new line as needed to complete the testing and certification of the project.
  • Place and install required coax cable when necessary, to complete assignment.
  • Install all passive and active devices, pedestals, and vaults and coax splice cases required to house CATV equipment per customer requirements.
  • Test Coax-RF lines for balanced signal between points-continuity and fault.
  • Load required tools and materials on boom trucks, vans, pick-up trucks, and drive to work location.
  • Read and understand site plans, maps, diagrams, designs, and prints needed to support project.
  • Pull Coax through existing duct package, pull cable through conduit either manually, blowing, or mechanically, and splice and activate underground and aerial lines.
  • Optimize new Nodes and splice in node splits to reduce capacity.
  • Utilize RF Meters and TDR accurately.
  • Learn how to safely utilize bucket trucks or climb utility poles to place cables on poles per system design.
  • Close a project by completing production sheets, verifying proper levels after activation, adjust and troubleshoot, as necessary.
  • Ensure that all work considers the safety of the customer, public and compliance with all governmental orders.
  • Ensure proper safety techniques and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Maybe required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

General

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.
  • Able to work both individually and in a team environment.
  • Able to communicate professionally with co-workers, homeowners, and customers.
  • Able to lift and/or pull up to 80 pounds several times a day.
  • Must be able to use hand tools such as screw drivers, pliers, drills, and wrenches.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Adherence to all company Safety, HR and Financial policies.

Technical

  • CableTV experience preferred but not required
  • Telecommunications Network experience, OSP, is a plus
  • Electrical and structure wiring experience not required

Training:

  • Classroom Training & on the Job training provided tuition-free for the duration of 8 weeks.
  • Training Location will be in Jacksonville, Florida.
  • Expected start date of September 6th.
  • Production based commissions on top of hourly pay. (discretionary)
  • To receive 100% tuition assistance, paid lodging and per diem, you will be required to sign a one-year commitment to remain employed by, and work only for, SEU.
  • Upon graduation, SEU will offer full-time employment at one of its 14 offices.
  • Pay raise upon graduation and acceptance of full-time employment.
