Job Detail
- Responsible for design, development and testing of Telecom Cables that are both cost effective and fully meet the customer technical requirements, including technical liaison with Telecom Connectivity and installation.
- Management of the design, development, and qualification processes for Telecom cable, FlexRibbon & EPFU, including ensuring that design reviews and related activities are conducted in accordance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001: 2015
- Full technical support to customer enquiries and contracts.
- Management of the product design process including design changes.
- Responsible for product cost reduction (DTC), approval of alternative materials and preparation of associated raw material specifications.
- Ensures that new materials, products and processes are effectively transferred into manufacture.
- Ensuring that all Telecom cable products which be subject to CPR requirements are tested and classified for reaction to fire according to the EXAP rules before being placed on the market.
- Ensuring that any products affected by design, process or material changes which affect the reaction to fire characteristics are retested.
- Departmental resource and cost management
- Ensuring Company participation in relevant in standards and industry bodies, consistent with Company objectives.
- Technical support to the Manufacturing, Quality and Purchasing function in achieving business objectives
- Co-ordination with Prysmian Group Telecom R&D functions on relevant matters.
- Provide updates to the R&D Director on tasks and projects on a regular basis, along with formal close out presentations on completed projects.
- Significant experience of working within a Telecom Optical Engineering team, supporting design, development and testing of optical cables
- Product knowledge including materials and cable manufacturing processes.
- Educated preferably up to degree level or similar in a relevant Engineering subject.
- A high degree of numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience of co-ordination and managing multiple engineering activities & multiple projects – including liaison with internal functions, customers and suppliers.
- Capable of accurate and detailed work and high level of communication skills
- IT skills in MS Office necessary. Experience with SAP would be advantageous but suitable training will be provided.
