What You’ll Be Doing:

As the Telecommunications Administrator, you are responsible for assisting Networking and Telecommunications in supporting the University’s telecommunications and networking infrastructure. This position will work within the Telecommunications and Network team to help improve operational stability by actively monitoring the network, responding to incidents, and offering solutions. In this position you will update and create documentation for projects and processes and play a lead role in updating records in association with projects and day-to-day activities.  The administrator will assist Network Engineers on and contribute to network and telecommunications-related project teams.
 

This position works a standard 40-hour week with hours between 8am and 5pm.  Voice and/or Network outages and special projects will require work outside these hours (at night, weekends, and holidays).  
 

The Purdue System Cloud is a co-operative venture between Purdue West Lafayette, Purdue Northwest (Hammond/Westville), and Purdue Ft. Wayne.  Travel between the campuses may be required.  Occasional travel between the other campuses may also be required. This is a multi-vendor environment, and a successful network administrator must be able to work with staff across institutions using the most appropriate technologies to meets the needs of all three campuses. 

 

This is a hybrid position where you will work part of your week on campus and the other part remotely.

 

What We’re Looking For:

 

Education and Experience
 

Must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in telecommunication, networking, engineering, IT, construction, or related field
  • 3 years of experience in telecommunications, networking, engineering, construction, or related field
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be accepted

 
Skills:

  • Demonstratable knowledge of telecommunications network standards and best practices
  • Working understanding of telecommunication infrastructure design
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and excellent time management skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects at same time
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • Ability to
    • work on campus at least 50% of time
    • travel to other campus locations, as needed
    • work in both a team environment and individually

Preferred:

  • Practical knowledge of Cisco and/or other vendors’ networking technologies
