Telecommunications DC Power System Field Technician

WaveStar Networks is seeking both Experienced and Junior -48VDC Power System Field Technicians to join our various regional teams for the installation of, and circuit connection to low voltage -48VDC Power Plants in use by Telco, Telecom, Cable, Internet and Data Centre organizations.

Description:

• Install, turn up and test various -48VDC Power Plants from start to completion
• Install/Remove fuse panels and circuit breakers inside power bays with live bus bars
• Perform live cutovers on new or existing equipment and take all necessary precautions to prevent service disruptions, including absolute adherence to the customer’s Change Management processes, which could affect down time. E.g. Log in or call into a designated central location (i.e. NMC) when accessing the customer site
• Install all types of sealed and liquid cell batteries e.g. BAE, Unigy II, GNB, EnerSys and C&D
• Cut, run, crimp and lace all sizes of power cable, connect H-taps and cable lugs on live equipment
• Monitor inventory levels at job site, ensure any missing materials are ordered
• General operation and maintenance of various power plants including Emerson/Vertiv, Alpha, Lucent, Tyco and Argus

Requirements:

• Thorough knowledge of -48VDC power system plants including batteries, rectifiers, racking and connections
• Conversant with practices and policies related to installing equipment and power
• Understanding of industry standard installation practices and policies for CO equipment and power including Telcordia and Canadian telecommunications service provider standards
• Demonstrable quality of workmanship
• A good mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use various hand and power tools
• Flexibility and ability to multi-task at several concurrent projects
• Ability to travel extensively
• Possess a valid Driver’s License and good record (Abstract will be required before hiring)
• Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook

Licence/Certification:

• Driver’s Licence and Clean Abstract (preferred)
