Overview

The Drill Rig Operator’s primary responsibility is to safely operate drill equipment, including but not limited to Vermeer directional boring rigs, backhoe/excavator, skid steer, and Vacuum excavator.

The Drill Rig Operator will maintain safe working conditions per all prevailing regulations and company policies. The incumbent must possess a responsible driving record to ensure the safe daily transport of equipment to job sites.

The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with the Vermeer directional boring rigs and related procedures, including a thorough understanding of all related construction site operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operates Vermeer drill equipment on job site, including but not limited to the following: Vermeer 23×30 & 8×12 directional drill, Yanmar backhoe/excavator, Bobcat skid steer, and Vermeer vacuum excavator, possibly others.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance required by the manufacturer for proper operation.
  • Responsible for weekly reporting of equipment hours.
  • Restores and/or landscape disturbed areas of the job site.
  • Will develop and maintain a bore schedule.
  • Responsible for the site setup and clean-up.
  • Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment on and off truck and trailer.
  • Set up a safety perimeter using signage, cones, and safety barriers and flagging traffic when required.
  • All other related activities.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong computer skills.
  • The incumbent must possess no less than one year of documented experience utilizing similar drilling equipment.
  • Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps and permit drawings/applications to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
  • Must be experienced with Vermeer drilling equipment and understand their capabilities and limitations.
  • Experience with drill setup and design processes.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Basic ability to use small tools/hand tools.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, safety rules, and operating instructions.
  • Must be able to use locators to identify utilities proficiently and safely.
  • Must have good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be very safety conscientious.
  • Must effectively communicate with crew, customers, vendors, and permit entities.
  • May be required to work overtime, after hours, on weekends, during emergencies, and/or be on-call as work is needed to ensure the job is completed.
  • A Class A CDL is preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Additional Requirements

  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a drug screening.
  • Able to lift heavy and/or awkward objects weighing up to and sometimes more than 50 pounds.
  • Able to bend, stretch, lift, and safely perform other manual tasks.

Pay: $20.67 – $31.01 per hour
