Overview:


Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton, LLP, a global Am Law 100 firm, is seeking a Telecommunications Engineer to join our Information Technology Department.

This position can be based in any of the following offices: San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Downtown Los Angeles, Century City, Orange County, Del Mar, San Diego, Houston, Dallas, or Washington DC. There is only one opening.
The Telecommunications Engineer (TE) is responsible for operations, maintenance, and supporting the firm’s telecommunications systems, infrastructure, and related technologies. The TE can work independently and within a team, effectively manages time, and desires to learn new technologies. The TE also collaborates with other Information Technology team members to ensure continuous operations. The TE further interacts directly with end-users and provides excellent customer service. The TE reports to the Director of Network Engineering & Infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs administration of the firm’s telephone and voicemail system, which includes system programming, moves, adds, and changes (MAC), and performs system upgrades as required.
  • Work with different engineering departments to ensure integration and quality of service of telephony systems with other services and systems.
  • Perform daily reviews of systems and metrics to ensure that systems operate within Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Provide ongoing training on telephone and voicemail systems to end-user and technical staff.
  • Maintaining and updating telecom documentation, files, and records, including the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), to ensure continuous operations.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to the firm’s telephony systems and infrastructure.
  • Assists in the review of vendor contracts and maintenance agreements; monitors contracts for compliance and reconciles all telecommunications invoices for payment.
  • Provide mentorship and knowledge transfer to other members of the team
  • Maintain professional decorum when representing the IT department to attorneys and staff.
  • Provide telephony features and operational procedures training to end-user and technical staff as required.
  • Willingness to perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Provide 24×7 support as needed.

Essential Functions of Job:
  • Review systems daily and resolve all issues on a timely basis.
  • Work on support tickets and requests as assigned.

Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in a telecommunications environment that includes working knowledge of all systems, equipment, techniques, terminology, and practices used in installing, maintaining, and servicing telephony equipment, call accounting, and voicemail systems.
  • The qualified candidate must demonstrate experience with Avaya VoIP systems, UC, or a UCaaS solution.
  • Comprehensive experience troubleshooting complex systems.
  • Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and within a team format.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to other Firm offices and data centers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience with at least two or more of the following knowledge areas: VoIP, SIP, Audio and Video codecs, T.38, Avaya UCon-premise, or UCaaS systems.
  • Hands-on experience with PowerShell or Python for automation. Professional knowledge of Windows server OS, Linux, Nutanix, Networking, and CoS/QoS is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Wireless networking and video conferencing systems is also a plus.

Education

Required: Completion of college courses required.
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree

License and Certification

Preferred: Avaya and RingCentral MVP Admin

Computer/Software Knowledge

Required: Windows and Linux/Unix OS
Preferred: Experience working with Zoom, Teams, and RingCentral.

Work Environment
  • Overtime may be required as the job duties demand.
  • Current Firm policy is hybrid–working in the office a minimum of three days per week, and working from home the rest of the week (subject to change).

Travel Requirements

Up to 10% travel. Travel could be to anywhere within the United States, Firm office locations, and data centers.

The pay range for this position is $41.00 to $54.00 per hour.
