Telecommunications Engineer

Utility Telecommunications Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer in WV, VA, East TN, or East/Central OH

HYBRID, Full Time, 12 Month Contract.

Pay rate: $32 – $54 (depending on experience) plus benefits.

Travel will be required with worker’s personal vehicle including traveling to New Albany up to once per month.
Could be a need for occasional OT if needed and approved by manager (estimated up to 5 hours/week).

Typical functions include:
1. Provide and document budgetary cost estimates
2. Provide detailed engineering plans, costs and schedules related to fiber optics-based projects
3. Provide engineering guidance regarding telecommunications issues to business units and associated contracting firms
4. Coordinate with Station Engineering to ensure proper infrastructure is installed during station construction to support communications needs
5. Procure required fiber cable storage, splicing, termination, and access equipment
6. Define and document splicing requirements
7. Select and manage fiber splicing
8. Compile Method of Procedure documentation related to fiber splicing and rearrangement activities
9. Review, approve and document installed fiber test characteristics. Verify against initial system design to ensure proper communications system operation
10. Coordinate fiber cable related maintenance and repair activities
11. Process equipment and contractor services invoices
12. Coordinate with Graphics and Documentation to ensure redlines are processed and included with as-built documentation

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BY LEVEL:

Utility Telecommunications Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer Assoc: Minimum of 4 year degree in engineering, construction, business, or communications with 1-2 years of experience or 2 year degree in engineering, construction, business, or communications with 2-5 years of experience or No degree with 6 years of experience

Utility Telecommunications Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer: Minimum of 4 year degree in engineering, construction, business, or communications with 2-5 years of experience or 2 year degree in engineering, construction, business, or communications with 5-9 years of experience or No degree with 9 years of experience

Utility Telecommunications Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer Principle: Minimum of 4 year degree in engineering, construction, business, or communications with 9+ years of experience or 2 year degree in engineering, construction, business, or communications with 14+ years of experience or No degree with 14+ years of experience

Qualified Work Experience:
Experience with cable construction, maintenance and repair scheduling/coordination
Experience with fiber cable systems operation and maintenance
Expertise in defining customer needs and implementing practical solutions
Expertise with communications facility/infrastructure layout, specification and procurement
Expertise in prioritizing projects and tasks

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $34.00 – $54.00 per hour
