Telecommunications Engineer – Work-from-Home

Harrisburg, PA – PA resident required

Our client is a large telecommunications company providing state-wide services to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. You will be working with client personnel, contracted consultants and vendors in the delivery of networked data communications and issue resolution. The position is full-time associated with a long-term contract. Excellent customer service skills required. This is a Work-from-Home position – no travel required.

General Summary

Responsible for the configuration and operations of all telecommunication related capacity and equipment that is deemed necessary by the planning organization (headroom and customer order related) and manages efficient and timely deployment of equipment. Works independently under minimal supervision. Performs a wide spectrum of moderately difficult assignments requiring alternative analysis, innovation and judgment. Assumes all routine tasks for major or multiple projects and is periodically called upon to make independent decisions. Has strong internal and external networking skills.

Technical Needs of the Enterprise

· Hands on CISCO Network Infrastructure Experience (Cisco Routers/Switching) and Nexus technology.

Cisco devices include 6807, 6840,4500s,3850, and ASR1001.

· Juniper Network Device Experience – Juniper QFX

· Experience with networking technologies such as BGP, MPLS, VRF’s, OSPF, EIGRP and VLANs/Trunking

· Strong background with IP addressing/Subnetting (IPv4).

· Ability to understand, create and modify Visio network drawings as needed.

· Remote Installation, configuration, and support of the network infrastructure

· CCNA or CCNP certification (CCNP preferred)

· Monitoring health, performance, capacity of network infrastructure

· Definition, evolution, implementation of NFV/VNF

· Experience in SD-WAN reference architecture.

· Network monitors tools – Solarwinds

· ServiceNow

Interpersonal Skills:

· Ability to Communicate with Customer and Internal organizations.

· Good prioritization skills – ability to handle changing priorities.

· Travel to Customer sites occasionally on short notice.

Experience

7 years’ experience managing, developing and delivering strategic network architectural design and operational excellence.
Broad Knowledge of DNS and DHCP.
Experience with designing and configuring Layer2 & Layer3 Cisco & Juniper technologies including MPLS, VRFs, QoS, spanning-tree, VTP, trunking and VLANS.
Excellent knowledge of current Networking protocols and standards.
Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts, traffic flow, and data processing concepts.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices

*Experience with network monitoring tools (Solarwinds), workflow applications (ServiceNow)

Education

Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Field of Study: Engineering or Telecommunication or related field

Certification – CCNA or CCNP (CCNP preferred)

Other Job Requirements

Experience working in a corporate environment.

*24×7 On Call monitoring of network – rotating schedule
Ability to work well with team members and the ability to take direction/requests from multiple sources.
Ability to thrive and accept changing priorities and deadlines
Ability to proactively manage issues and drive resolution without receiving direction from peers/management.

Ability to work during maintenance hours to assist in troubleshooting, upgrades, maintenance activities, and cutovers.

Excellent interpersonal, consultative, written, and oral communication skills.
Experience working in a GxP regulated environment preferred.
Experience working in manufacturing environment is a plus
Experience with Rockwell Automation technology is a plus
Experience with Cisco and other networking Security products.
Familiar with network and system monitoring tools such as SCOM and Spectrum
Experience with developing project plans a plus.
Highly self-motivated and directed.
