UTILITY INSPECTOR

The Position

Utility Inspector will be required to use their knowledge and experience to ensure construction methods are in compliance with standards, adherence to the engineering drawings, monitor scope changes, review third party permits, offer technical assistance, and complete topographic surveys for third-party companies on a variety of projects throughout Ontario. We are currently seeking to fill 2 positions in the Kingston/Brockville area.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Program Manager
  • Collects plant assets data including photos and GPS location of distribution facilities
  • Preparation and translation of field work to supply finished product to the client
  • Ensure compliance with our customers Construction Verification Program (CVP) requirements, specifications, standards, policies and design
  • Provides quality assurance inspections and safety checks
  • Prepare “Asbuilt mark up” drawings on installation of hydro plant installed by contractors to ensure compliance with the hydro standards, specifications and design
  • Coordinates with other departments to ensure projects are completed safety and in compliance with established standards and procedures.
  • Organize conductor isolation with the hydro utilities Line Department for contractors working in close proximity to existing energized hydro plant.
  • Inspects vault rooms, three-phase pad-mount transformers, foundations, grounding, duct-banks for commercial and industrial projects
  • Inspect transformer and switchgear terminations, primary and secondary cable splicing as required
  • Responsible for a working knowledge and understanding of the appropriate safety legislation and EUSR rules
  • Documenting field changes and review with clients to verify Change Order (CO) if required

Requirements

  • College Diploma in Engineering Technology or equivalent past experience
  • CET designation would be an asset
  • Valid G license and clean driving abstract
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical data, plans, reports, engineering drawings and safety requirements
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to document construction site activities with field progress reports
  • Ability to train and mentor others in the work
  • Extensive travel in Ontario, requiring overnight stays is required
  • Working, reliable own car, travel daily is required as part of the position
  • Ability to work longer days, in remote areas with little to no direct supervision
  • Work overtime hours as required
  • Able to work in a team atmosphere
  • Attend site meetings with customers to discuss project scope as required
  • Excellent spoken & written communication skills
  • Past telecom, outside plant design or construction experience an asset
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
