Job Description: Telecommunications Installer and Maintainer
Reports To
System Administration and Installation Manager
Position Summary
The Installer/Maintainer assists the System Administration and Installation Manager with the installation of equipment and systems managed by IQ Machines at client properties. The Installer/Maintainer will work closely with the equipment configuration and service departments make sure that installation and testing tasks are completed in a timely and professional manner, and that systems and equipment maintained by IQ Machines are monitored and accessible. The position will require extensive travel to IQ Machines client properties nation-wide; up to 60%. This is a fast-paced position requiring flexibility due to ever changing construction and service schedules. When the Installer/Maintainer is not traveling, they will assume a role in the service department responsible for help desk trouble tickets. This is a salaried position.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Installer/Maintainer is to travel to IQ Machines client properties and install telecommunications systems in a timely fashion. This responsibility typically follows a year-round construction calendar with peak season being February to August. In between installation schedules and to ensure familiarity with IQ Machines systems, the Installer/Maintainer will fill a role in the service schedule resolving trouble tickets. A summary of key responsibilities is as follows:
Install IQ Machines Systems at Nation-wide Locations
- Travel with the System Administration and Installation Manager to construction sites
- Install IQ Machines Systems to include but not limited to: Network switches and servers, CCTV security cameras and NVR servers, Low voltage cabling (CAT6, fiber optic, RG6, LMR, 14-20AWG), Controlled access systems (biometric readers, smart-card, key fob), WiFi access points, Satellite based TV
- Assist with inventory management and equipment delivery to project locations
- Participate in installation schedule planning meetings
- Ensure documentation of installation actions
Monitor and Maintain Operation of Systems and Equipment Installed by IQ Machines
- Keep systems and equipment operating smoothly and troubleshoot breakdowns
- Communicate status of critical issues and related work plans to key customers
- Oversee timely resolution of all service issues – provide technical assistance/direction when needed, escalate to senior staff when appropriate
- Ensure documentation of maintenance actions
- Determine when to send field technicians for critical system repairs and oversee the repairs – assign or escalate to different resources as needed
- Create purchase orders as needed to maintain equipment levels, receive equipment and stock
Participate in New Projects
- Define design or installation practices needed to ensure easy maintenance of system
- Recommend system improvements
- Build and Test Systems prior to shipping as planned and agreed with Project Manager
- Participate in documentation reviews to ensure all as-built documentation meets the as-designed criteria
- Help resolve project installation and operational issues with team
- Plan effectively to help ensure projects are delivered on time, to standard and on budget
General Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with the clients, colleagues and contractors involved in projects and ongoing property operations
- Review working practices to support continuous improvement
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Success Criteria
The primary success criteria for this position is customer satisfaction. More specifically, the
Installer/Maintainer is measured on the successful operation of the systems maintained by IQ Machines, and the effectiveness of the help desk to respond to client and resident issues. Success will be measured using:
- Quality, timeliness, and professionalism of installation efforts
- Metrics for key help desk effectiveness
- Accuracy and quality of information submitted to customers
- Accuracy of documentation submitted for trouble tickets
- Accuracy of documentation submitted for installation/design
Experience and Education Required
- Associates or other technical degree in IT, engineering, or related experience
- Experience as a network engineer or tech support
- 2 years of experience in customer service
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Experience and Education Preferred
- Bachelors level degree in engineering, computer science, or IT related discipline
- Low voltage cabling and installation trade experience
- Firewall and router suites
- RADIUS server
- Virtualization suites
- Help Desk software
- IT certifications are a plus (CCNA, CCNP, CISSP, etc.)
