Telecommunications & IT Infrastructure Administrator
The Niagara Catholic District School Board invites applications for the
position of Manager of Telecommunications and IT Infrastructure.
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this role requires proven
experience leading IT teams in comparable technology foci and at least
5-10 years’ experience working directly in the telecommunications field.
Applicant should have experience in construction technology and have
extensive experience coordinating complex projects and
implementations.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:
- Leadership of the IT Infrastructure team responsible for overall production support of IT operations including second and third line technology support to staff to resolve technical issues with IT infrastructure and related services both centrally and onsite across our 64 locations throughout the Niagara Region.
- Design, implementation and operation of the Board’s telecommunications platform including the support of integrated communications & orchestration solutions at 64 sites.
- Architecture, engineering and implementation of technology
- Infrastructure as it relates to new and existing buildings within the school board including wide area network (WAN) support at new and existing sites.
- Building management for the IT Services Centre location and consultancy to other IT Services teams.
Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- Attend Facilities site meetings for new and existing construction projects
- Design of infrastructure for new and existing board facilities
- Systems administrator for Toshiba IPEdge/CIX100/CIX670 platform
- Lead project coordinator for the implementation of an incoming telecom platform
- Respond to building concerns and issues at the IT Services Centre
- Coordinate portable relocations with respect to network, telephone and P.A. systems
- Coordination of network, telephone and cable television sub- contractors
- Operation of Primex atomic clock system; maintain bell schedules for all schools
- Management representative for Health and Safety (additional training will be provided)
- Perform forensic investigations when required
Additional responsibilities include:
- Provide technical support at site meetings with engineers, architects and contractors when network and or telecommunications issues arise.
- Coordinate moves, adds and changes for telecom system in schools and administration sites.
- Troubleshooting of Telecom issues that may arise.
- Design considerations for new telecom platform.
- Review architectural drawings & provide direction implementing technology into the classroom.
- Liaise w/ Facilities; relocate portable classrooms; reconfigure data, telephone P.A. services.
- Coordinate work delivered by supporting telecommunications and network service providers.
- Provide additional coverage for other IT Managers and staff when required.
- Respond to FMC alarm system alerts and provide backup for telephone line issues.
- Perform forensic investigations when authorized to do so.
- Perform Health and Safety inspections on a monthly basis to address any safety concerns or maintenance issues for the physical building.
WHAT YOU BRING:
EDUCATIONAL AND INDUSTRY REQUIREMENTS
- University degree or college diploma in a telecommunications, electrical engineering or computer/technology program.
- At least 10 years cumulative experience working in the Information Technology field.
- At least 5 years’ experience working in the Telecommunications field.
Required qualifications:
- Strong and effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with others as a team and providing customer service.
- Ability to work well in both group scenarios as well as in a self- directed context
- Ability to work at various locations within the Board’s jurisdiction, including access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, carrying and lifting equipment up to 20kg.
- Excellent time management & organization skills
- Skill in troubleshooting and in the repair and maintenance of computer systems, networking platforms, software implementations and related peripherals
- Competence with basic networking protocols and hardware
- Experience working with local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs)
This is a full time permanent position.
HOURS: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday
LOCATION: Catholic Education Centre, Welland, ON
SALARY: $83,887.39 – $93,208.21
