Telecommunications Network Engineer in Information Services

UTHealth Houston is looking for a Network Engineer for Information Services who will focus on telecommunications.  This employee will be responsible for providing and maintaining high-quality, reliable, flexible and appropriate infrastructure networking technology solutions. The skillset this role revolves around will be weighted towards telephony. You will be working with voice applications support and also looking at server issues.  Network experience is a plus, and so is the CCNA certification.  

 

This is a full time position that is classified as exempt.  The employee will work forty hours a week on-site in a location based in the heart of the Texas Medical Center.  The role is eligible for all UTHealth benefits including excellent healthcare options and a pension plan run by the State of Texas.  We may be able to offer hybrid schedules at some points.

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing and maintaining high-quality, reliable, flexible and appropriate infrastructure networking technology solutions.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.  Maintain major network infrastructure hardware and software packages providing advanced configuration skills, with knowledge of all carrier types and delivery methods.
2.  Manages daily operations of a wide area campus network.
3.  Assists in the creation, engineering, developing, and installing network solutions to complex technical, procedural, and logistical problems.
4.  Analyzes, designs, and administers the performance of network connections and/or configurations.
5.  Manage the performance of major network software packages and modify network device configurations.
6.  Oversees and/or performs the physical set up of a network assuring integrity of communications and connections.
7.  Performs complex problem determination and resolution identifying networking problems using network analyzers and traffic analysis tools, and a technical understanding of the user community’s requirements.
8.  Integrates services into the network including telephony, data, video, and other.
9.  Perform cost-benefit analysis on various hardware and/or network configurations.
10.  Other duties as assigned

 

Certification/Skills:

  • Cisco Network Associate certification (CCNA) preferred.
  • Project management experience
  • Microsoft Teams Phone System (UCaaS)
  • Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS)
  • AudioCodes Technologies (SBC, ATA, OVOC)
  • Avaya On-premises Solutions (SBC, CM, SM, AMS, CMS, AES)

 

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field or relevant experience in lieu of education.

 

Minimum Experience:

Four years experience in networking technologies.

 

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
