Telecommunications Network Technician

Job Summary

The Telecommunication Network Technician performs provisioning of all complex assignments of PRI, SIP, and IP lines and trunks in a carrier class telecommunication switch. Must be thoroughly experienced in SIP routing and switching protocol as well as IP and TDM based Voice PBX’s. Additionally, works with Lightpath Field Technicians, customer and customer’s vendor on testing, interop and turn-up of new services. The Telecommunication Network Technician also mentors new and less experienced technicians. Candidate will be cross trained in Hosted Voice products and services. 

Responsibilities

• Perform all configurations for customers SIP, PRI, and Analog lines
• Performs remote SIP and PRI circuit testing with field techs as well as interop testing with clients vendor
• Configures endpoint router (IAD) for analog line integration
• Performs porting of numbers after successful configuration and activation of services
• Work with Lightpath Field Technicians, Vendors and other Carriers on the implementation of new services and facilities.
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned
• Work with Project Manager, Sales and other Lightpath departments to ensure the successful provisioning and implementation of all new Voice products and services.
• Provision and Activation of SIP and Hosted Voice related voice services
• Learn all ancillary Voice products sold and supported by Lightpath

Qualifications

• 5 or more years’ experience on Voice Networks including: hardware functionality, software operation, feature operation, routing, IP gateways
• 1-2 years TCP/IP and VoIP telephony maintenance/operations experience
• Able to identify, diagnose and resolve circuit interop to client equipment issues
• Configuration and interop testing of Lightpath’s SIP and PRI trunks into clients routers or PBX’s

Experience

• Knowledge of related telecommunications edge device equipment such as Routers and Siparators
• Must be thoroughly knowledgeable in SIP and able to collaborate with clients high level Network Engineers on integrating SIP trunks into their network
• Advanced circuit troubleshooting utilizing SAS call trace, Adtran debug, Remote Wire Shark, etc.
• Experienced in provisioning of any “Carrier” class switch
• Understands routers, POE switch cnfg and networking topology
• SIP protocol experience

Education

• Tech school graduate
• HS Diploma or equivalent
• College Degree in Information Technology or Telecommunications a plus
