The City of Aurora has opened testing and is accepting applications for the position of Telecommunications Operator.

Description:
Under the direction of the Lead Telecommunications Operator, performs duties including the operation of a two-way radio/telephone to dispatch emergency personnel. Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Responding to highly stressed/distressed calls from general public; Perform constant data entry; Extract data and record essential information during emergency calls; Maintain thorough logs of shift activities through use of Computer-Aided Dispatch Systems (CAD); Operate LEADS and NCIC terminal, TTD and TTY equipment; Dispatch tow trucks, ambulances, or other emergency equipment accordingly to accident scenes; Performs general clerical duties related to position.
Must have the ability to complete licensing requirements, speak clearly, work in a stressful environment, and multitask. Required to work rotating shifts during training. This position may require you to work the first, second, or third shift, including weekends and holidays.
Must be able to pass job simulation test, type 40 WPM with 90% accuracy, polygraph and psychological assessments, interview, background investigation, and meet physical requirements. Position requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. Spanish bilingual skills desired.
Salary:
This is a full-time, union position. Beginning hourly wage is $29.09/hour, after 6 months $29.76/hour, after 1 year $30.33/hour, and annual increases thereafter, plus a full benefit package.
