What You Will Do

The Network Infrastructure and Engineering Telecommunication Services (NIE-TS) Group is seeking an energetic and customer-focused outside plant planner. In this position, you will use your wide-ranging skills and experience to plan and manage complex telecommunication projects throughout LANL’s 43 square mile campus and remote offices.

NIE-TS provides telecommunication technologies and services enabling science, research programs, and daily operations at LANL. The group provides the entire Laboratory with voice, wireless, data, and video communication services. What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of outside plant technologies for selection and sizing of communication cabling and services to new and existing facilities.
  • Experience working closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Architectural and Engineering personnel collaborating, organizing, and explaining major telecommunication projects.
  • Expert knowledge of telecommunication planning, standards, and design including copper and fiber cable section throws, cable count cuts, and transfers.


Education/Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with communication record management, electronics, and transport devices.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Experience with project management skills including forecasting, milestones, process flows, budgeting, and estimating.
  • Familiarity with Standards, ANSI/EIA/TIA industry codes and the National Electric Code.
  • Experience with federal facility rules and regulations on communication operations.

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 – Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
