Job Description
Alabama State University, Center for Leadership and Public Policy invites applications for the position of Telecommunications Specialist. This position will provide support for analyzing, planning, configuring, installing, and administering ALDOTVoice and Video Systems, for VoIP and VTC system administration, installation and end user support and for use of reporting services and diagnostics software to ensure QOS meets standards and overall system health is sustained.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages and administers assigned network and (Mitel) VoIP infrastructure including capacity/feasibility planning, new installations, upgrades, configurations, feature functionality testing,maintenance, troubleshooting, back-up systems, security procedures/protocols, operating procedures/guidelines, and user connectivity.
- Install, configure, and maintain (Mitel) VoIP systems, ensure server platform compatibility and that application hosts meet required specifications.
- Coordinates and performs project planning and project management responsibilities which may include establishing priorities, specifications and approaches, organizing, staffing and scheduling, working with others to complete the project, and monitoring progress.
- Install, configure, and maintain (Cisco) video conferencing servers and hosted applications, ensure system functionality and dependability, mitigate downtime.
- Install, configure, and maintain (Cisco) video conferencing endpoints, ensure that VTC VLAN, QOS and networking standards meet required video conferencing network specifications.
- Prepares documents and performs research to justify language used in department documents and budget recommendations.
- Trains and provides support to site-managed technical staff regarding network and VoIP administration and use.
- Responsible for maintaining proper security and documenting configuration on managed Cisco videoconferencing servers and Mitel voice servers
- Implements, installs, configures and upgrades hardware and software on Mitel VoIP and Cisco Video Conferencing servers and attached peripheral equipment. This includes evaluation and testing of operating system patches.
- Mitel VoIP user account administration, end user phone installation, maintenance and troubleshooting,end user client software installation, maintenance and troubleshooting
- Cisco video conferencing system administration and conference scheduling, endpoint installation,maintenance, troubleshooting and end user support.
- Maintains a current knowledge of rapidly changing VoIP and video technology
- Utilize diagnostics software to manage voice system performance and modify system as necessary to ensure high QOS delivery.
- Utilize reporting services to view overall system health and modify system as necessary to ensure high QOS delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants may quality with any one of the following combinations of education and experience:
- Four (4) years related technical experience in Network technologies, tools, and techniques
- Four (4) Enterprise voice and Data Center experience working with collaboration platforms & solutions
- Two (2) experience with large-scale enterprise networks
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Proven track record working with leading unified collaboration systems like Cisco, Microsoft and Mitel
- Experience with Network analysis tools? Demonstrated experience with supporting IP services to connect to (IPv4, VPN, Multicast, QOS, VOIP,VTC, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with Session Border Controllers and Voice Gateways
- Expertise using collaboration gateways.
- Expert-level knowledge of VOIP protocols such as SIP, RTP/SRTP including TLS
- Very good knowledge of protocol and packet analysis? Experience working with switching and routing protocols
- Experienced in virtualization platforms VMWare
- Strong understanding of NAT traversal for VOIP? Previous telecom utility experience beneficial
- Analytical thinker with the ability to learn and adapt quickly
- Must have excellent time management skills
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and customer service
- Any experience with Python, JSON and BASH scripting
- Any experience with SD-WAN
- Any experience with zero touch deployment with Cisco network equipment
- Strong experience with MDM, Intune/Microsoft Endpoint Manager
- Maintaining device compliance using Microsoft Endpoint Manager
- Strong experience with MAC OS, iOS, Android OS
- Familiar with Intune Compliance Policies and Configuration Profiles
- Knowledgeable and comfortable around MDM Policy
- Being able to create consistent, clear, and precise documentation, following detailed procedures
- Being creative and thinking outside the box to determine the best solution
- Strong communication skills
- Must be a team player
